Classic cars in Spain

Postby TorreDelAguila » Sun Oct 23, 2016 5:34 pm

Are there any procedures available here for registering a Spanish plated car as Classic, to take advantage of reduced car tax, etc? The latter is already really low, so may not be much point if the trade-off is an ITV every six months! Car, btw, is now 20 years old . . . although I do realise the roads here are full of old Spanish bangers pushing twice that.

You can register a classic car on an 'H' plate but it has to be at least twenty five years old:

Thanks for that really useful link. €1000!! Kind of what I expected.
Interesting that, in Spain, the older the vehicle gets, the less often it is tested, although I can see some sort of logic to that.
I think I'll stick with the "bargain" annual tax rate of €86.

The cost is one of the reasons all those Cherised Car club members blatantly run around on non-Spanish plates in cars that patently never leave these shores - poor dears cannot afford it or the road tax after paying for that personal plate!

Does anyone know of a website or a car breaker in the Malaga area? I would also go as far as Seville but would need to know in advance that item be available..

Also what would be the best spark plugs for an old BMW 316 with 3.18l engine?
I notice the price vary on-line €3 up to nearly €20, does anyone know the reason for this?
I am not bothered about the price I just want to get it right...

Many thanks

Car breakers in Malaga: easy . . . Head for Bauhaus, go past it on the right, and just keep heading up the dual carriageway for about 1km. On the left, in a service road, are about a dozen breaker's yards, all in a row. Some have computerised stock, all have an office where you can ask for the part you need. Most pull the parts off for you.

It is worth asking at your council as some, including mine, waive road tax on any vehicle over 25 years old regardless of whether registered as historic or not.
