Electric mini scooters
It was suggested to me a couple of days ago that there is a movement within the Spanish government to ban or severely restrict the use of electric mini scooters in Spain, anyone heard about this ?

Re: Electric mini scooters
Interesting article Beach, thanks, I personally believe they are very dangerous and should be banned, I've seen two seperate accidents recently where people have been hurt, one of them an elderly lady !

Re: Electric mini scooters
Do you think that there should be an outright ban or restrictions?

Fairly rigid restrictions, these things are quite fast in comparison to walking speeds and almost silent, you can't hear them ! There are currently no laws to limit who can use them or where !

I suppose an outright ban would be somewhat Draconian but they should have registration and compulsory insurance as should bicycles which are equally as dangerous especially when ridden on the pavement.
Re: Electric mini scooters
They are banned in the historic centre of Malaga via GPS. If you enter this area they switch off. They will be banned from paths in the city and will be aloud only on roads with the user wearing a helmet.
Re: Electric mini scooters
Guess that only works for rental ones that have the GPS fitted?
I was getting a taxi from Málaga airport on Saturday night and saw an electric scooter on the road go against two red lights and across a busy interchange near the bus station - balls of steel on the rider I reckon (but not lights or a helmet, obviously).

All great fun - until a driver (obeying all the rules and laws probably) swerves to avoid the idiot and kills some innocent person who is simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
