Emergency Measure and ITVs

Postby Unicorn » Sun Mar 15, 2020 3:32 pm

Hi folks

Just my luck, I had an ITV booked tomorrow and the car is in the workshop.

Does anyone actually know what is happening with that?

It seems there is confusion and wouldn't car mechanics be essential service like errr hairdressers...?

I saw this and they are confused as well. And if they are not running ITVs would there be a, say, three month concession, or similar?

I checked the itv website last night as ours is due at the end of the month.its says ITVs will happen as normal but only for those with appointments.if you dont have one dont come as there wont be any for those who turn up on the day. Inorder to keep down the amount of people there.

Good question re normal garages. Ours is due to take our car for it .you would think garages are allowed to open as its a essential business to fix cars etc. Will see if its open when i drive past tom. At worst we will just take it.heck at least it gets us out!

Cheers for that. I may be lucky. My garage made the appointment and is at 11am or so.

Fingers crossed, I'll keep you posted.

By the way, ITV appointments are really difficult to come by this years so if you need one make it asap. I made mine weeks ago and even then it was actually due last Thursday and the garage could onlyt get one tomorrow. And the garage is a local bloke who knows everyone, if you see what I mean.....

I expect Tráfico will take a sensible approach to you not having a valid ITV under these circumstances if it was due just before or during the shut down period.

The ITV station here in San javier is posting that they are open for business....
We have just been told by jet2 that our flights end of this month (and assume returns 1st May) are cancelled and they will be refunding. I have the 4-year service booked early may and first ITV is due middle of month. As ever, wait and see nearer the time! Not sure what the situation will be for licence renewal.

Just had mobile phone text to say cancelled. Thirteen days ago I flew to the UK because I have two family members seriously ill. Couldn't drive and have a vehicle to get around in because the MOT was due. Now can't fly back to drive back so there are two of us to spread the load. Even if I could the car would be ITV 'less because I would have to turn around really quickly. Would insurance pay out for a prang in say France on way back in June 20 (or 21!)? Could be away for months. As it is I will be here for months. CV 19 the gift that keeps on giving!

I asked my insurer, Linea Directa, this question and they said that lack of a current ITV would not affect the policy.

Good to know.

I wonder how they propose to deal with the backlog. Even if they were to re open in 14 days approx , with a full staff complement, with inertia there could be three or four weeks worth to process on top of normal demand. Minor compared to everything else of course.

Ours was booked in a week friday. Runs out middle of april. Just have to keep checking the site everyday because will you just hae to rebook and there will be a free for all or will you get given one in order.

Annoying but in the scheme of things.. but its not like we are going anywhere at the moment!

I left my can with the mechanic, or in his garage, which is a proper workshop. I have taken the view that if it is in the way they will get it done as soon as they can. I'm not going anywhere and still would not be comfortable driving around without itv. As we all know, police can vary!!
