Hola

I have completed four ITV tests on cars in the last three months and in every case, the inspector has opened the doors and yanked the seatbelt with a blue gloved hand.

Ive had both situations - current rules say that windows should be open and seatbelts connected, but its the luck of the draw / which tester, they still do it both ways. Depends how they feel.

After all these years my brain does not remember, Ive got a seven seater zafira, I honestly can remember if they do the back two seatbelts for the folding seats probably because im nevous and in the driving seat in a 19 year old car not understanding what they are saying as they are going through the test like a rocket. First time i heard the word "pito" i thought no thanks Im married, to a woman :). I was expected Bocina.
About 20 year i was in a petrol station in Valencia City and was asked how i wanted to pay "efectivo" I said "quiero pagar con dinero" :)

When I had a seven seater the back seats were usually allways folded down, rarely ever used them.
The seat belts for them were never checked at an ITV test.

We have always used an official Junta de Extremadura ITV station and the checks always seemed thorough. This November I couldn't get an appointment anywhere because they were still dealing with the Covid backlog (which sounded a bit far-fetched but that's what they said). So I got an appointment at a private station licensed to do the ITV. They checked EVERYTHING including, for the first time ever, ALL the seatbelts — and I have a 9-seater Jumpy. The test took twice as long as normal but, all was well and the car now has a new sticker. It was way more thorough than the official places, make of that what you will.

Didn’t know that was an option!

The replies show though that the test has variations

That must be an "extremadura" thing ? as far as i am aware theres nowhere other than the official stations that you can do it in.

I would like it if the smaller garages started doing it, like in the uk.

I sometimes had the thuoght that some UK garages would fail a vehicle so that they could make money on reairing the failure.
Here, in Spain, the ITV centres do not have an vested interest in failing a vehicle.

Give me the Spanish system every time...strangely in a country with institutional corruption the system here is way less corrupt than in the UK!

I don't know what happens in Andalucia but here they are a few 'private' places that have licences to do the ITV. In any event, they are more thorough than the Junta places. Agree about the transparency and lack of fiddles opportunities in the Spanish ITV/MOT system.

Ok, i will change my statement to 'i wish there were more of them' !!

We have a guy that we call sometimes.. He charges us to do it, but can normally get an appointment within a week, wether there are slots avaliable or not.

I remember the early days of the MoT - I used to give a hand at the garage where I kept my race bikes, in the leafy suburbs of Croydon. There was more than one Captain Mainwearing type who would bring in an old Jag or similar and boast that we would not find anything wrong with his pride and joy. Up on the lift, out with a large screwdriver, plunge straight into the rusting bodywork underneath leaving a large hole and a fail! Nice people rarely got a fail...

First appointment available for Algarrobo for a friend's car we look after has just come through for 23 March. The car runs out in January but no-one will be here to drive it anyway. There's been some strikes with the staff walking out at short notice, just to add to the problems.

What gets me is they have gone on strike apparently because theres not enough testers ect.. surely by creating more of a backlog, they are undoing the hard work that they have already done ?

**please be aware that it is illegal to drive a car without a valid ITV, which is a €200 fine**

I wondered if they would take into account the situation etc.. then i read in the diariosur about people being fined for having no itv...

Word of warning folks. One of our cars is due an itv in march, can't remember the actual date. So given the postings recently that suggested long lead times today i asked my village garage to book me an itv for early march. The earliest appointment they could get in algarobbo was for 29th March...

So give yourselves plenty of time when you need to organise an itv.
