My Car has developed an engine whine in 2nd Gear and to a lesser extent in 5th Gear. I mention that I can select each gear with no problem. So it is not a selecter issue. Maybe it is a bearing issue. I do not really know. As soon as I change into 3rd Gear the noise goes away. Please can an expert help me with his problem.
Thank You
David

Hi pensure1988,
You're better asking your question on a Renault specific Forum.

Have you had any work / service done recently
Added:: I see you've asked on a Renault Forum....... so that's a start have to be patient.

sounds like a gearbox problem not engine. Bearings sounds obvious.

David, my (2002 megane) gearbox went bang in antequera. I drove back to alhaurin with it whining like a beast.
I bought one from poland for 50 euro, had it shipped here for 25 euro and fitted it myself in the back garden.
If you are going to go that route, make sure the numbers match.

Hi,
"I bought one from poland for 50 euro, had it shipped here for 25 euro and fitted it myself in the back garden.".......nice one spanish-lad ....
Renault gearboxes normally have an ally tag with the Type and serial number........maybe a useful site...........

pensure1988::
I'd get the gearbox oil changed...as it may still be the original if the drive shafts haven't been replaced.

Thank you everyone for their comments.
I took my Car to a local Spanish mechanic in Sabinillas today. They found a rubber gasket,spiral spring type that had perished in places and was leaking Gear Box Oil. The part was replaced and Gear Box Oil changed and the Car is back on the road again with no noise at all now.
