Car Paint

Postby jonbar.1 » Mon Jul 04, 2022 11:22 am

Apart from the bumpers,my car has black plastic bits of trim between the windows etc.
They have become "grey" and shabby.
Can I buy a paint for this ,which can be applied by brush?
I would prefer brush-applied rather than an aerosol, since the masking-taping would be extremely fiddley.
Thankyou JB

Renovador parachoques.

It's not paint but restores the sheen. quickly wipe off windows, etc. if it spalshes.

Works well for me.

Thanks Jhonie99.
Just checked it out on Amazon.es.
They have two on offer ( apart from aerosols).
One is €48 the other is €8.70...blimey!
Will,of course, try the latter.
Just one question though : you said it restores "The Sheen" The plastic fixtures on my car are "Matt" black.
It doesn't make them shiny does it?
Cheers JB

You can buy a spray bottle (not an aerosol) in carrefour or norauto for 3.50 - spray onto a small sponge or cloth and rub it on.

Any oil works too, wd40 etc, and some people heat bumpers to restore the black

We get tyre shine in 20L bottles in work, that stuff is good too.

If the car is in the sun it won't last too long tho, I do it personally after every wash.

Back to black should be available in any descent auto store.

Just tried WD40.
Certainly cleans the surfaces up a bit.
Also realized that a couple of the panels between front & rear windows have developed kind of raised cracks,so something with an element of black pigment looks to be necessary.
Thanks again jhonie99,Costakid & Spanishlad.
All good ideas.

When I had my old Nissan Patrol i painted (sprayed) some plastic bits, looked fine for a while then it started to peel off ! best to just get some restoration spray and do it over once in a while !

For black plastics turning grey, every solution now is temporary. Back to Black, as mentioned, is good and quite cheap. It's an aerosol but there's no need to mask off paintwork. Any runoff can be wiped off with micofibre towel or even kitchen paper. It looks good for 3 months or so through a Malaga summer: six months in less harsh light. A standard trick is to run a hotgun or perhaps hairdrier around the strips. Don't overdo it, but it loosens up the compounds and the black rises up. Myself, I use Back To Black.

That's what I do. Most places sell the sprays, which aren't very expensive. I usually spray a couple of times a summer, maybe after I've washed the car.

If it doesn't work out, you can always go back to "her"
