ITV Dates

Took the car for it's ITV today, well in advance of it's expiry date of 28 June 2023

Favourable outcome, but on reaching home, noticed that the new expiry date is 26 July 2024 - thirteen months from the previous expiry date......

Very kind of the Junta, and it's not a problem, but I am curious and wondered why the extra month? What am I missing?

That is correct.
An extra 28 days is added to the expiry date if it passes before the expiry date,
Clearly stated on the website when you book an appointment.

My ‘stepson’ has just moved to Spain, done the NLV just waiting for consulate to call him to come back to Manchester to collect it. There is a family car at where he will be staying, but ITV has expired and he says first appointment is next week, putting him off the road. Can one still turn up and chance getting seen, or is an appointment essential? Nearest to him is Algarrobo, next is El Palo if there is any difference?

My understanding is that he can only drive a car, which doesn't have a current ITV, to a test station if he has an appointment for a test.
