Hola
Our dog has been limping more than usual lately (has only 3 legs), and I have taken him to see a specialist. The upshot is that he has osteoarthritis in the left ankle (not sure of the word in English) so he will need injections of Cartophen Vet once a month long term. at present I am in Canada and injections are nto a problem but I am wondering if anyone knows if this medication is available inthe Malaga area ? Appaently I cannot purchase any here to be administered there so wil have to make some kindof arrangement if we go back for a lengthy period of time. Thanks Fred

Re: Cartrophen Vet
I am sure the Alhaurin Veterinary Hospital would not have a problem with this, and probably many other Vets nearer you as well. Our old Pug had dreadful arthritis due to having to have the ball on the top of his leg removed as a youngster, and I have metacam here for emergencies all the time.
If you don't get a definite answer from somebody I am going down there on Monday and can make some enquiries for you.

Thank You murbisa
any information you have would be greatly appreciated as it means when we go we are sure of at least one place that will do it....I dont care if I have a bit of driving to do as it is only once a month. Poor old tinker has been had a rough time of it and needs some relief. thanks again

Re: Cartrophen Vet
Aaah bless him... is he getting some fish oil supplements? Blackstrap molasses is very good too as it contains the minerals clacium, copper, manganese, potassium & magnesium which are needed for muscles, nerves & bones. A tablespoon in his dinner should help to put a spring back in his step. Glucosamine sulphate, Chondroitin & MSM can also be useful.
Hope he feels better soon

Re: Cartrophen Vet
Well he is getting a new food that has a bit of everything in it , it is supposedly all natural and has fish oils etc in it. oneof hsi foord is Canisource (www.mydogeatswell.com) which is made locally and the other is "a Taste of the wild" (www.tasteofthewildpetfood.com) and his hair and teeth are showing great improvements . the vet is giving him an injection of Cartophen Vet once a week for 4 weeks and then he will be maintained on a monthly shot. The bone specialist said this would get him in good shape again. I am looking into getting some glucosamine but only aftetr he is used to the new meds that he is getting now. He also is on anti inflamatories. Poor thing one leg missing had the other knee operated on and now his ankles bothering him...funniest thing he is stillone of the happiest dogs I know. Tail always wagging and always raring to go for a walk.
Thanks for the concern

Re: Cartrophen Vet
Fred - I went to the Vet this week and she has assured me there is no problem giving cartrophen injections there. This was Alhaurin Veterinary Hopsital, but I am sure you would get them more local to you.

That is wonderful news....now I don't have to worry about how long my stay is when we go out. Such a relief. Also means he does not have to stay here in a kennel if we need to go over unexpectedly. Thanks again
