Beautiful looking dogs and according to the video were kept by the Malamute indians for hunting polar bears and babysitting their kids !!!! :eh:

I have had a good look around the web at several different sites and the breed does show up well but there's nothing like personal experience. Too late to possibly throw a spanner in the works now he's already bought, it will grow to be a fair sized dog.

Thanks anyway.

Hi mhic,
Would have hoped your lad had done some research before committing to that breed.
Not a breed I'd have recommended to a family, don't expect it to chase after balls and return like a Lab or Retriever.
They will "blow" their coat once a year and it comes off like sheep's wool, you can brush/comb daily but still it gets everywhere .
They are a breed for heavy haulage so are a very strong on the lead.
All my best learning experiences start with a problem I need to solve.

They are not the easiest breed to train, need firm handling when young, but are very rewarding if you get it right.

He bought a dog which will make probably make training even more difficult, but at least he bought from a breeder and saw both parents. Apparently the sire was very friendly rolling over to get his belly rubbed. So he will have a £850 dog and just half a mile from his house is a kennels implicated in the theft of his last dog, a husky, and known to be connected to a welsh puppy farm!

Hope he has it micro chipped already then.....I know it is meant to be te other way around but I have always found male dogs easier to train than female!
