Spot on tick and flea treatment

Postby baroness » Mon Aug 09, 2010 8:34 pm

Amazon co.uk have just turned me down for posting the above to Spain. Is there anywhere else that will send to Spain cheaply, or a Spanish company that sells at a comparable price.....thanks in anticipation. Jeff

Ebay France is where we bought our dog's Scalibor collar online.

I get my dog's anti tick collar from the local co-op-MUCH cheaper than our vet.

Many thanks for all your replies, but just like others on this forum, I was just trying to save a bob or two.
I have been in Spain, full time more or less, since `99 and do realise the benefit to both myself and the community in buying local goods and services whenever possible. In this case my local vet sells "Novartis Prac-tic" ( the same as spot on? ) at €8.00 a pipeta, where as I have seen on Amazon UK the same size for £4.00, almost half price. For two dogs over a year this would represent a large saving. If there is anywhere in Spain that would come close to that price, I would be pleased to hear about it.
Again, many thanks for your many replies ...Jeff

I have PM'd you baroness. There is at least one company happy to supply around the world - whether it is cheaper I leave you to judge!

Baroness, I use a product called Supone it says on the bottle that is veterinary supply only, but I buy it from a local almacan were they sell all sorts of things, It is a 1 litre bottle, you use 10 ml to 15 lires of water, it cost just short of 25 euro and it is great, I use it on the local dogs here that used to be cover in tics and fleas, it cover all sorts of stuff, I used to use front line until I found this, they do a small bottle for about 12 euro but in comparison it isn't good value for money, I litre bottle would last a normal dog a life time, I am well impressed with it.

Julie, thanks for that, Supone, I will certainly get some when I get to the local town. It sounds as if we are both doing the same thing. If I do not find it, I will come back foir more details

After reading this, I hope we don't have a flea problem any time soon! We gave up on Frontline a couple of years ago when it stopped working for our cats. We've been using Stronghold since then (at about £40 for 6 treatments in the UK), fortunately still have 4 treatments left, but you go through it easily once you get an infestation. I wouldn't like to imagine how much that costs here, if it's available at all.

Yes I have seen stronghold in our vets here. It is also a wormer so I used to use it in the UK instead of frontline. Now put X-Spot on the dogs.

I know they're not 100 per cent infallible (against sandfly) but I do think Scalibor collars take a lot of beating both for effectiveness and economy......and prices do vary depending on where you get them. Ferreterias as well as 'animal' shops sell them, as do the CHAIN charity shop in Coin (where they are extremely reasonable)

I use an Aussie company : https://www.thevetshed.com.au/index.php

Not sure why, as the cost is about equal despite posting halfway round the world - I suppose it was a source when others were unavailable, and it works with the stuff being delivered to my village instead of having to go to Ronda or somewhere else.

I have been told that if you can get a prescription for flea or tick treatment you need and present this by fax or scanned in an email then you can present this to the UK online shops and they can then send the products to you. I have not done this myself but I know of someone who does regularly and it saves him over 100€ a time.
