Car Ramps for Dogs

Postby Unicorn » Mon Jul 01, 2013 4:38 pm

Does anyone know about where to get a new or secondhand car ramp for a medium large dog?

Thanks for the welcome Enrique.

Yes about the metalworks, I am considering options. I think also they can be made of wood.

It only happened for the first time last week that he took 2 goes to jump in but it is not going to get any better for the poor old sod.

Do a Google dog ramp........images..... to get an idea, I like the one that rolls up...........some of the others look like they need loads of space to carry in the vehicle . :(

many years ago now, we made a wooden ramp to get our elderly GSD into our MPV - it was just a thick piece of plywood with a block across under one end. We stapled a piece of carpet to the upper side to give her something to grip with her claws while ascending  :D . Being an MPV, the size of the ramp wasn't relevant, except in relation to the dog of course !

That sounds great. What sort of dog was it? And how wide should it be? My dog is a real woos and not really a risk taker.

Sorry - GSD is German Shepherd Dog !! She was average size for a female, the ramp was about 2 foot wide, and maybe 3 ft 6in - 4ft (I'm guessing here - we've still got it but it's in the shed down the garden & it's too dark to see !) - I can measure it tomorrow if need be. Petra (no, not Blue Peter, but short for 'petrified' !) would happily use it, but sometimes needed 'steering', or a 'rear assist'

Hi

Just measured it - 51 cm x 97 cm. I think these measurements were just what size the piece of ply happened to be rather than 'made to measure' :D

Oh yes, and it didn't have a block of wood at the back, it is just a plain sheet of ?1 cm ply. I think the one with the block was for getting in & out of the house rather than the MPV, so for the latter we must have just propped the edge into the vehicle doorway

Amazon UK have them - I just bought one a couple of weeks ago for my dogs - they are for cars and have a good lip of the edge for the edge of the car plus super saver delivery :-)

This is no longer available for deliveries to Spain - see thread on here - from June 13th IIRC?

Yes I found that out the other day. The Spanish Amazon is OK but quite limited although I got a floor steamer the other day and it was way cheaper than on the UK site and some extra pads for it which were £35 on the UK site and 24 Euros on the Spanish site.Exactly the same product.

I think I'll have a dig through the store room and see if I can invent anything , if not Plan B, whatever that is.
