Thanks Irene. Gestor is preparing the paperwork for us to pick on Wednesday morning so hopefully we will be able to pick it up in time. Otherwise, Thursday.

Re: Expired Residencia - new EU Cert
Best to go early - you have to queue, get the form, fill it in and go over the road to the bank to pay the fee, then maybe queue again back at the cop-shop to hand over the stamped 'paid' form. Our actual certificate was printed off and handed to us straight away after that. The risk of being late is that you run out of time to complete all the steps, and have to go through the incomplete part of the process on another day.
Maybe if you are using a gestor they will have by-passed some of the process, but we took in completed forms but then still had to go to the bank to pay the fee etc.
From memory they are open at 8.30 am?

Thanks Peter. We will be going in ourselves although the gestor is preparing the application form for us. We'll go in as early as we can.

Re: Expired Residencia - new EU Cert
When we renewed ours (in Malaga) two years ago,our Gestor did all the legwork, we only turned up to collect the final document. Well worth paying to avoid all that queueing etc!
Re: Expired Residencia - new EU Cert
Campo Steve,
Don't "renew" it as such, make sure that you tick the correct boxes on form EX18 for PERMANENT RESIDENCE.
(EX18 you can download if you wish)
If you have been resident for more than 5 years mark the 2 boxes on the right at section 4.
(Residencia permanente AND Residencia continuada en España durante 5 años)
Also fill in the box above: date you came to live in Spain.

Reminds me of the punchline of that old joke about funcionarios: "No, no, es por la mañana que no trabajan, por la tarde no vienen."Campo Steve wrote:Thanks Mowser. I id find on a forum that it is open until 1330 so will see how time goes on Wednesday.
Re: Expired Residencia - new EU Cert
Yes , make sure the PERMANENTE box is ticked.
The reason that the medical people didn't pick it up is
A) the old certificate is still legal as
B) there is no requirement to renew it &
C ) you become a PERMANENT resident automatically under EU law.
There is no actual requirement to renew it as you have automatically become a permanent resident by virtue of being here. The fact that a Spanish official may say that you haven't is irrelevant.
Remember the renewal is AUTOMATIC, they can ask for nothing except the old cert. & proof of who you are & it must be supplied on the spot.

Re: Expired Residencia - new EU Cert
Well I hope you have more luck than I have had. I have posted before about the debacle and the fact that the fee is €10.40 nad not €10.30 as per the Oficina de Extranjero email that they sent us.
Despite lots of proof of income they are still considering our position - this is after our appointment on 18th January 2013. How long does it take to check and validate ?

Re: Expired Residencia - new EU Cert
Our gestor filled in the paperwork for us and, as a gestor, prepaid the 10.40 euro fee. As far as I know we did not have to show any proof of income. It may be that the gestor had already done that as she does our taxes so has that information anyway.
Anyway, armed with the completed paperwork and her proof of payment, plus photocopies of our passports we proceded to Torre del Mar police station, with Mr and Mrs Mowser as translators.
A mere 10 minutes later we left with new, permanent, residencia cars. Actuall not cards but plastic paper the size of a credit card.
It certainly helped having the gestor prearing the paperwork correctly.

Always the case.Campo Steve wrote: It certainly helped having the gestor prearing the paperwork correctly.
The easy and surprisingly cheap option is to use a Gestor to handle all this bureaucratic stuff.
There are plenty of them around, their fees are extremely good value and it saves an awful lot of head banging!

Re: Expired Residencia - new EU Cert
I'll back up what Sid said. For a nominal fee a gestor will take most of the hassle out of the workings of the Spanish paper-chase.

Re: Expired Residencia - new EU Cert
I would agree and I did involve a Spanish Gestor who went with us on the first visit but as it was out first time (we had only been here 4 months) he didn't seem to realise that our documents for proof of income would be a problem.
Anyway, today we received an email and unless my interpretation is wrong then it looks like they have conceded that we will receive our certificate. Here is the email and there could be some ambiguity but I think we're OK. : -
