But just to be clear, for the purposes of the return, you use the rate on the 31st December.

Who decides what exactly "out of kilter" is?[/quote]

It doesn't really matter, it's just about compiling a priority list for further investigation.

Any good tips for ensuring your name is lower down on the priority list? Will the rules of the game be shared with us?

Take as an example two people of the same age and with the same size pension pots. One takes out the max annual benefits and ends up paying some income tax. The other would rather take out less and allow his pot to build up and allow for inflation. It just so happens that the second option takes him below the income tax threshold.

Which one is the higher priority for further investigation?

I had assumed that the question related to the "official" annual rate for Renta declarations.

The rate for 31st December is 1.222

I guessed that Sid, and i think the question was about that, but I just wanted to make the point that for asset declarations its quite specific about the rate to use.

How do you calculate the average account balance on a fixed term savings bond that matured during the last 3 months of 2012? It will be a constant x pounds until it matures then transferred to the current account, and the bond will be closed and be a zero balance at 31 Dec.

Just multiply the value "X" by the ratio of the days in the last quarter before it matured divided by the number of days since it matured.

Cashed on November 1st. That would be 32 days before it was cashed and 60 days after so X multiplied by 31/60 would be the average balance.

I have now managed to get the online submission sorted out. It is surprisingly easy to use. It took about 10 minutes to complete the forms.

The biggest problems will be deciding exactly which category and subcategory your assets are in and getting the correct values for them.

I have not submitted the form yet as I am awaiting some valuations but the input has been validated as correct. After completing the form you save it to your PC so that you can bring it up again easily to modify it before transmission.

The online form is available at
https://www.agenciatributaria.gob.es/AE ... GI34.shtml if you select Presentacion 2012

You will of course need a digital certificate to do anything but the process for getting one has been documented in the FAQ section here

Sid,
re: digital certificates I presume both spouses will need to complete their own form 720 and use their own digital certificates?

Yes, there is no joint declaration like there is with income tax.

The FAQ looks a bit complicated but once you understand the process it is surprisingly simple.

Sorry Sid but that produced this message:
Se produjo un error
That was on Firefox, Chrome and IE.
Any ideas?

That's because you don't have a digital certificate.

I did say that you can do nothing without one.

If you have one, are you sure it's installed properly. Normally, whenever you visit a site that needs one, it checks your computer and you get a pop up with the details, which you select, and gain access.

Sid

My DS was downloaded on a previous computer, do you know how I go about using it again this year, or is there a facility to input the number or something ?

If you no longer have the old computer you will have to start again.

It is possible to save the certificate and install it on another computer but only if you have saved it on a memory stick or other device.

There is some info in the FAQ.
