Residencia and driving licence renewal

Postby pilgrim2 » Thu Sep 04, 2014 8:01 pm

Do we need to renew our Residencia Certificate if we have the ¨con caracter pementente¨ one ? We have the A4 size green paper one.

I thought we had to renew our Spanish driving licences every 5yrs, but looking at mine the expiry date 2022? Which would be 10yrs. I vaguely recall something about a medical every 5 yrs. We are both 52.

I have Googled......but it is not clear to me.

No, you do not have to renew your green form if it is for permanent residence.
In fact no residence green forms / cards need to be renewed.

The driving licence period was changed to 10 years by a cross EU regulation about 3 years ago. The 5 years period comes in at age 65, I believe.

Hola

Driving licence renewal across all 28 countries should now be the same

renew every ten years until 70 then every four years thereafter

It's 5 years after 70, not 4.

Mine's for renewal in December. How long does it currently take to get the replacement licence and how long in advance can an application for renewal be made?

It usually takes about 2 weeks. I can't see why you shouldn't be able to renew it now. Ask at the medical centre.

Thanks Sid. There's no immediate rush but my licence expiry date is just before Christmas so I'll make sure to get it started early December.

If you haven't done it for 10 years you will find the new process really improved. Just turn up at the medical centre with your ID and the old licence - they do all the rest including the photos.

Thanks again Sid. ID being green residence form/passport? No padron required?

The passport should be enough, but take the green form just in case. You don't need the padron.
