.22 Air Rifle

Somebody returning to the UK has offered me a .22 Air Rifle. Does anybody know if you need a license to have one of these or if it needs to be registered with the police?

It depends on the power of the airgun. If it is over 18ft/lbs muzzle energy it is classed as a firearm and getting a licence is essential and quite complicated.

If it is less than that you can own it without any paperwork so long as it is only used on your land. You are not allowed to kill any living creature, even vermin.
