The traffic jams seem to be a bit further up in Alicante - a real Brit haunt for years. There are lots of moans on forums from people about the DGT moving the goalposts on driving licence changes - one from an irate Brit who will now have to take a Spanish test for a car, and a wagon, then the two-stage process to get a powerful motorcycle licence. Anyone feeling sympathy and looking at his forum history page can see a post he made in 2017 asking for advice on changing his UK licence....
I have waited until the rush subsided in Murcia (and have had Spanish permiso for years) which so far looks a wise decision.
