Tarjeta Sanitaria

Hi, Can I use my card to fulfill prescriptions in the Canary Islands as I have to have these every five days?

My understanding, having been told so by my local Pharmacia, is that the card is valid throughout all of Spain including the islands of Spain.
I think it would be a good idea if you also ask in your local Pharmacia in case I've been misinformed.

It was 3 or 4 years ago but i couldn't use my Andulacia health card to pick up prescription drugs in Madrid. They did say that you could pay for the pills then claim the cost back from andalucia health service tho'. Wasnt worth the effort for a couple of euros.

Thing may have changed since then. I guess your local clinic should be able to give you an answer.

I believe every autonomous region operates a different system - having enjoyed the flexibility of the Andalucian system, with the card accepted everywhere in the region when we changed to a Murcia tarjeta we found this only identifies you as being on the system. The GP prints out a sheet of our prescriptions which we take to the farmacia, they scan the barcodes and issue the prescriptions.
When we went for an extended visit to the UK I researched surgeries near our holiday home, and one was happy to sign us on as Visitors, dishing out all my meds from the Murcia GP's sheet, and as a bonus they were free!
