I was told yesterday that if I bought an apartment here in andalucia and then after obtaining the appropriate licence I rented out said apartment I would, if I paid into the social services system, be eligible for free healthcare. I would have to present and pay my income tax returns at the appropriate times. But the government would designate this a legal business and therefore provide free healthcare.
Is this correct? G

Re: Renting out property - a new slant
I set up a similar business a few years ago ( although with more than one property) and registered as a sole trader renting out property with Ministerio de Trabajo,Migraciones Y Seguridad Social. I paid into the system to get healthcare, and now I`m retired, a Spanish pension.
However, although there are reduced rates for start up business for the first couple of years, the cost is fairly high. In addition, depending on how you set up the business, you may need to charge IVA on the rental, send in monthly returns, and pay tax up front on the rental ( You will get any overpaid tax refunded when you send in your annual return).
I would strongly suggest that you talk with an accountant who specialises in this before you start a business, particularly as I doubt that the income from one property would be sufficient to cover all your costs. They will advise you of all the current costs and legislation.

Basically going self employed to get free healthcare? Read lots of threads of people thinking of doing similar things on cab spain. not buying property and doing it that way though. But for many the costs outway the gains as being self employed is expensive.
Have you looked at other options if you aim is to get healthcare? Pre 2012 resident? The royal decree? Convenio or just private healthcare?

€270 a month seems alot to pay for health care, it would be cheaper to take out a yearly plan for €2000 or whatever it is?
