If you want to learn more about allowances, etc., look at the FAQ here

Whereas I totally agree that there won't be any tax to pay isn't it worth doing to have a record in the tax system to show you are a legal resident here in Spain?

There are two schools of thought on whether it is a good idea to do a nil return - one is that it puts you on record as a tax resident so you can build qualification to avoid taxes on sale of your only residence, the other that it puts you on record so the tax authorities can see if they can screw you for something!

The important thing is to make a declaration the in first year of residency. Thereafter its not so important. Once you have mastered the tax program online, basically it is so easy you might as well do it every year.

Some friends of ours wanted to do their first tax return and went to the tax office. They sent them away as they didn't want to waste their time doing a zero return. I did it for them. Problem is that a lot of people use a gestor or worse still a lawyer to do it and paying out €200 for a zero return is crazy!

Incidentally, for those who usually go to the tax office for a face to face session, at the moment this is not an option for "sanitary" reasons. That may change, though. The alternative is that you book a telephone session and they call you on the day and you do it over the phone.

Gifts are taxed in the same way as inheritances and are not part of the Renta declaration. You have to pay the tax within 30 days of receiving the gift.

It was supposed to allow you to make appointments starting 0n May 5th but at present the service is showing as not available for sanitary reasons. That may change, of course. The alternative is to make an appointment for them to phone you and do the declaration by phone.
