I know quite a few who have lived in Spain illegally for what I would call almost a lifetime. Some lived there long before Spain joined the EU and are still there now. Mainly the ones who do home repairs, taxi runs etc. One couple didn't even have a bank account in Spain although they have an expensive villa. Doesn't/didn't bother me at all. Not the way i would want to live but as long as my affairs are in order and have no worries that is the only thing that I care about. Never been judgemental or a curtain twitcher.

I´m surprised that you remember Katy...

We have been to the bank, handed in our paperwork, the house we like has an escritura, and a nota simple, but no AFO - the sellers are in talks at the moment, and we have approached a second "tasoria" to value it - we have been told that they dont ask for AFO´s as much as the one the bank uses normally, so we´ll see. According to the catastro the house is now on "protected land", but the second tasadora seems to think the house was there before the land was re-classified.

It´d be a shame if we cant, its a little campo house of 75m2, on a totally flat, fenced plot of 2000m2, with a garage and stables. It´d be prefect for us.

Its all on hold at the moment a little, what with the missus being on "ERTE" at the minute, but we are keeping in touch with the bank and the seller.

I hope you and your family are well.

It always amazed me, and it still does - when i meet people like that.. scrabbling for a couple of euros more to pay the rent or buy food, why move somewhere and not have the money to do so? Perhaps they came with a chunk but it ran out and they are trying to make ends meet.. but why not get a job - look for employment and earn an honest wage rather than working so hard for so little? funny how even through that hardship they can still afford to drink and smoke :?

Reminds me of a story i was told a few years ago, this happened in alhaurin el grande - theres a guy thats been doing "taxi runs" locally - around town, for half the price of the local taxis. They "caught" him one day, doing a pick up outside a resturant on the road to cartama. One taxi blocked him in, while another taxi driver poured petrol all over his car. Proper mafia type stuff - they threatened to burn his car if he continued doing "taxi runs". It worked, he never did it again, as far as i know. Point of the story is why bother ? for 4 or 5 euros he could of been seriously injured.

Sounds familiar re the taxi. Several years ago in my area a car was burnt out for doing illegal taxi runs. Supposedly the local legit drivers did it. The alleged "driver" loaded, ex uk public sector worker. Why do it for 30 euros? Seems to me the short cutters etc etc are the ones with money desperate to get in or keep in with the clicky drinking groups they spend their time with so are quite happy to be involved in such things.

why move somewhere and not have the money to do so?
-------------
Why does any immigrant leave and go to another country regardless? cause they want something better than what they have in their home country.ontop its the uks obsession with moving to the sun and living the dream etc. Different sets of ppl. Young ppl wanting to set up a business families with young kids, running a bar or business. Then you have ppl who have taken tiny pensions and moved out here and live on a shoe string but in their view far better than having to keep working until 68 at least in the uk.

The trend towards abbreviations etc came about from the use of text messaging and Twitter where there were limits to how many characters you could use in one message.

There is no longer any place for it in normal communications and I include in “normal”, forum posts.

I wonder is there a limit to number of characters in a post Sid?

No, there is no limit apart from common sense. Really long posts are less likely to be read.

Totally agree on really long posts. You tend to just breeze over them.

I think it all depends on what is of interest to the reader..If it was a toss up between a long post or one full of holes then i'd rather read the long one..Nothing more annoying than reading half a story which then causes other readers to have to try and plug the holes with questions, it often results with the original poster disappearing for a few days before they answer the other posts and in some instances they don't return at all.

You’re right. The “word” TLA stands for three letter acronym, most of the so called TLAs are actually abbreviations. An Acronym is an abbreviation that forms a speakable word. NATO and UNICEF are acronyms but WTF is an abbreviation.

Not that anyone really cares! I does keep the pedants happy though!
