Voting in local elections

Postby Lavanda » Sun May 28, 2023 4:50 pm

We have just voted in the elections here, in Extremadura. For the last few times we have voted in the municipal elections and in the Junta ones and we could do that because we are residents. This year, post-Brexit, we have only been allowed to vote in the municipal elections. Our right to vote for the Junta has evaporated.

Thanks, Mark. I thought they had got it wrong but one of the officials did ring someone to check. Do you know why we can no longer vote for the Junta? Is it really Brexit?

You will not be able, for obvious reasons, to vote in the European elections either.

It seems that Pedro Sánchez has called a general election a few months early due to the election results. This one most of use cannot vote in unless we have changed to Spanish nationality.
