Help, we have an embargo on our bank account
Just received our bank statement today and included is a piece of paper informing us of an embargo. It looks like its from the Malaga car tax office. It says Patr. P. Recd Malaga.
We have received no notifications of parking fines or speeding fines etc. and wonder could it be something to do with car tax on the car we sold a couple of years ago, or even the transfer tax.
Has anyone got the telephone number of the office in Malaga. I found a website, but it is not very helpful. I have Googled our information but can't find any notification on the internet about it.
Help.

This is probably the Patronato Provincial de Recaudacion.
You could try 952 029000 but it really depends on what the embargo is for.
You can find other numbers here:

Have you carried out a search on the Málaga BoP?

Click on 'Busquedas' and enter as much detail as you can.

Embargo!
I have an English friend who had her salary embargoed due to an unpaid car tax from 14 YEARS AGO. The car has been scrapped long ago and, as she can not produce a receipt for the car tax, it cost her 400€ in 'surcharges' to get the embargo lifted. The area is Estepona.

Well I phoned the number Beachcomber gave me and it turns out to be IBI for the years 2004, 2005 and 2006, presumably for the land. It is really annoying as we have not had a bill and the town hall know who we are.
The local town hall could not give any more details and we have to go to Rincon to sort it out.
Do we pay the bill at the town hall, or do we wait for it to come out of the bank account?
What gets me is that other neighbours who have been here as long as us don't seem to have been billed or embargoed.

You probably need to go to Rincón because once it reaches the stage of an embargo it is out of their hands.
Were you the owners of the property for this period? Did you not think it odd that you had received no IBI bill?
This should all have been sorted out by the person who acted for you in the purchase but I seem to remember from past conversations about this that your lawyer was pretty useless. (What a surprise!)
If you have the time and the means I think it would be best if you went to Rincón to try to sort it out with a translator if necessary. You may be able to save some legal fees.

Just what is IBI ?
I have checked my bills and pay them by standing order every 2 months.
I have 2 bills from the 'urbanisation' - one for up keep and one for water.
I have 1 bill for garbage collection from the local council.
We have had the property for some 5 years now but have never seen or recieved a bill with any reference to IBI
Is it my responsibility to seek this out ?

is your bill a very small amount or over 100 euros,
At least you know your house is registered, we found out that our nasty spanish neighbour had been paying ibi on one of our plots, hoping nobody bought it and after 5 years could claim the land as his. Having an ibi bill is a good thing especially in the campo.

Thinking about it I'm with Martin on this one....i.e. confused
Checking through our direct debits for Spain we pay all the insurances etc., water, electricity and a one off yearly payment accompanied by the gestors bill which I take is the wealth tax.
No IVI payments as such, yet we have a few for "Luz" and a few for "bazura"
