Speeding fine

Postby gerryh » Thu Apr 17, 2008 2:48 pm

My wife received a letter from Traffico today for the car registered in her name.
The speeding offence took place on 16th Jan. They send out letters quickly don't they?
Anyway it was probably me driving at the time.
I assume I pay the fine at Traffico in Malaga.
Is it a simple process?
I note that they ask for the driver to be named. What if my son, who lives in the UK and occasionally visits, had been driving at the time, would they chase him up in the UK?
Cheers

would they chase him up in the UK?
Yes. All European countries exchange data to track down people and collect fines...
We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.

No I am not trying to get out of paying the fine.
Surprised I haven't been clocked before.

Just curious as to what would happen if my son, who drives a lot faster than me, gets clocked when he is over here on holiday with us.

The first question Gerry is if you accept it really was you (or your car). I got a speeding ticket out of the blue and when I worked out where the "offence" had taken place, somewhere outside Barcelona, I knew my car had never been near there so I challenged the ticket. It took them 7 months to reply and confirm they had made an error in reading the number plate from the camera. On that note I have noticed a new wave of roadside speed cameras being installed just in the last couple of weeks. With 1 May approaching and the new penal code it looks as though Trafico are making some new investments with hopes of huge returns. Also i think it is a "grave" offence not to declare who the driver was, which does make it a tad difficult if many people share the car and you really cannot work out who would have been driving at the time.

I paid the fine today. Could only be paid at a branch of Santander bank.
Got a 30% reduction for prompt payment.
Probably was me driving on that particular day/ time/ place.
I know I have been speeding on many occasions without being caught.

I think the form asks for the drivers name, the car is registered in my wife's name. The offence letter was in her name so I paid the fine in her name.
:D  :D

Does this mean any penalty points were "debited" from her account not yours Gerry?

I don't think there where any penalty points involved. I hope not anyway.
If there was then they will have been debited from her account.
Are there penalty points for driving at 96 KPH in a 80 KPH limit?

I drive far more than she does and it would be a big problem if I list my licence, only an inconvenience id she did.

Points lost for speeding are as follows:

Between 20km/h and 30km/h over the limit lose 2 points
Between 30km/h and 40km/h over the limit lose 3 points
More than 40km/h over the limit lose 4 points
Exceeding the speed limit by more than 50% lose 6 points

Fines are between €90 and €600

And in my "notice" they told me 121 in an 80 limit is just over 50% over was a "loss of licence" offence. Does this mean Beach that <20 kph over is 0 points ?

That is not stated but I assume so. The full text can be found here:

Thanks for the link Beach the bit "Prisión de tres a seis meses o multa de seis a doce meses y trabajos en beneficio de la comunidad de 30 a 90 días, y privación del derecho a conducir de uno hasta cuatro años." is a bit of a heavy change from previous, simply for over 60 kph in urbanas.

No, that means travelling at more than 60 kph over the limit, ie over 110 kph in a 50 kph zone and over 200 kph (80 kph over 120 kph) on a motorway.

Ah ............ lo siento. Have to improve my Spanish comprehension. Also may have to temper the throttle hand to stay below 200 kph on the bike!
