gaskets etc

Postby metalmonkey » Wed Apr 23, 2008 9:03 pm

Hi

sooooo I bought a van from our local fiat garage 2nd and paid 4k for it came with 6mth guarantee....very clean etc etc ....had to take it back after 5 days as there was oil in the water that feeds the radiator(you'll have to forgive my total lack of technical lingo!) and orange light on....garage said faulty seal...well that's what I think they said and I had it back 3 days ago...yep you guessed it today orange light back on ...couldn't feel or see any oil in the radiator water supply tank but water level low , so I put more of the special water in and the light went off but when I parked loads of water came (no oil) out presumably from the radiator water tank ...had a look in engine and they had also forgotten to attach the overflow pipe to the tank , spoke to the nephew in UK who said it sounds like the head gasket has gone....sorry to waffle on but how do I say the head gasket has gone in spanish...online translator says junta principal? does this sound right????

Oh I wish for somthing so simple. The cam belt went on my Alfa Romeo the other day and yes, major surgery.
I am buying an Opel next time, no more bent valves and associated problems!!!!!!!!!

Alfa recommend 75,000 km to change the belt. When i was running an Alfa I changed the belt every 50k. expensive, but cheaper than a blow up.

Don't Opel/vauxhall use cam belts (timing belts)? they seem to recommend changing at 40,000 miles.

belts are consummables
