Said on the news that the road has been closed between Mijas and Benalmádena. Believed the fire was started deliberately as was the one near Tarifa. What sort of people do this

It is all at http://www.diariosur.es/
If you really cannot understand simple Spanish (shame on you, if you live here  ), but in summary, it says that 300 citizens were evacuated in the early hours of today, 5 helicopters and 4 aircraft were/are being used to fight the fire, and it has evoked memories of the terrible fire of 2001, when a large area was burnt.
Sounds nasty, and I hope that no people are hurt.

From an ecological viewpoint, sadly many of the pine trees destroyed were up to 100 years old.
From the human aspect, yes it seems this was deliberate as two other fires sprang up close by at around the same time.
At the time of writing there are still three water helicopters hard at work, although no flames are now visible and it seems the worst has passed.

I remember the last one, drove up there and couldn't believe the devastation to the beautiful countryside and all the trees burnt down. It got very close to the pueblo that time. Sad to hear that more trees lost, hope everyones homes are ok. What sick *beep* want to cause this kind of destruction and put people at risk.

Planes and helicopters have been flying overhead past our finca all day coming in from the lake direction to the coast ( I think ?)
It's a little quieter this past 15 mins. - hopefully they have got the better of it.

What sort of people do this
Its generally known that some..not all.. of these fires are started by...wait for it...those who put them out... they need money..start the fire..then get paid to help put out.

That would be even worse, being as they truly know the possible consequences of their action.

I saw smoke rising into the sky the other side of Malaga yesterday evening, but forgot to look later to see if there were any flames. We don't seem to have seen so many fires this year, as in the past, which is a good thing for most people.

... but you would think that someone experienced in putting out fires would know how to start one without it looking suspicious!

Combe Martin! I know it well!

I remember the last fire and the following year the hills above Mijas were still a charred mess. We wanted to do a walk as printed in the G** H***** W**** book and, along with the beautiful pines, all the waypoints had been burned to a crisp.
