DA,i totally understand where you are coming from regarding the "put it up for sale"comment. It would make me feel better, only i know i am wasting my time.No one would offer what we need to keep the money we put into the property,we would have to sell it at a loss.but if things got so bad thats what it would have to be.
It is a possibility going back to uk for a few weeks for my husband to do the courses he needs to do,some of them run for 3 or four months and are very expensive,His wage at the moment is just covering our bills,so if he left for a while we would really be into our savings.

Jool, you are right about the "ripped off"feeling.Im gutted that i lost 100 quid to a crook.money i couldve done without giving to him.Still, wont be happening again.
Redsox-My son wants to move back to UK,but im not going on the whim of a hormonal 13 year old boy.
Of course his future and what he thinks is extremely important to us,but our descision will not be based around what my son wants, its what we decide is best for him.
I have thought about a job,but cant make any descisons at the moment as we are waiting for a phone call.If we get the call,I wont be able to work.(cant say anymore)

Although i do feel embarrassed writing the post in the first place,I am surprised to see that most people do actually feel the same as i do.You all talk complete sense.I do feel better for reading what your comments on here, and also the numerous emails i have recieved from other members with their personal feelings of whats happening to them too.
I really really appreciate all your thoughts and comments on this matter.
Thanks Guys.xx

donn´t forget PP that although the thought may hurt initially, it´s quite possible at the moment that you could sell at a loss, and due to the change in exchange rates since you came to spain, and the probability of finding a house in the uk that has dropped it´s price significantly over the last couple of years, then it would probably would work out that your "loss" would turn out to be a "gain".
I think you´ll find that a large majority of people, in whichever country they are living in,are at present not exactly happen with their lot at the moment...

However, during the past four years my enthusiasm has waned to the point of non-existence. I have come to detest and abhor the PSOE generally and Rodríquez the Cobbler and his puppet the Chav in particular with a passion that that I did not know I possessed as well as the havoc and destruction they have wreaked on the country and the region which they achieved long before the rest of the world went into recession.

The socialist crusade against the foreign population has filtered down through the bureaucratic levels to the point where I have come to dread having to deal with the likes of DGT, AEAT, DGP, etc. Previously one would have been unlucky to come across an unpleasant functionary once in a while, now finding a helpful one is a chance in a million.
Well you are the voice of reason so I don´t feel so bad now about having the same feelings!

Hey PP Good for you for having the courage to post about how you are really feeling, and it just shows that people can be supportive and understanding. If also gives others the courage to tell it how it is for them, and I am no exception.

Mother has been living in Spain for over 21 years, my partner and I just over 9, and I can say with hand on heart this is the first time I have actually considered going back to the UK, and more remarkably the first time I have ever heard mother express a desire to do so. That has to tell you something honey !

Mother is the reason I am here, she became ill and needed to be cared for but the only way I was going to get her back to the UK was feet first. My family have had a very tough few years, last year being the mother of them all. We became utterly convinced that we had the opposite of the Midas touch, and as far as luck goes we had loads of it, all bad...lol

One thing this situation has taught us, is as a family the more we pull and work together, the closer we become, and the easier it is to overcome obstacles.

My OH has hurt his back and has been unable to work for a couple of months, which in turn has dried up all of my work, so our income has gone from gravy boat to bovril trickle. There have been days where I have wanted to sit in a dark cupboard and hide, many days. I know from experience that this will not solve a thing, and as bad as things might feel, I know in my heart I have to try and ride out the storm, as I have invested too much of my money and time, but more especially me, in this country and this place where I live. I think the thought of having to start again back in the UK is enough to stir me on and keep my head level.

Keep your chin up, and try and ride out the storm. When the weather picks up a bit and the economy is a little stronger (yes I believe that a big band aid will be the answer) you are going to feel differently.

You know how to contact me if you want to rant XX

Your advice to '...ride out the storm ...' is good. Reading about the situation the the UK over the last few days makes very worrying and unhappy reading. If anyone is tempted to 'jump' anywhere right now, the advice might be ... wait if you can. No one seems to know what is going on.

I need to get my @rse into gear and sort my head out.Ken2,you are such a sweetie.

Some of us may not live long enough to ride out this particular storm!
We are both pensioners, in our seventies, with no family in Spain, but a daughter & grandchildren in Britain.
Practically, there is no doubt that State care for the elderly & incapacitated is very much better in the U.K. In Britain I dare say our income level would qualify us for, at least, council tax benefit!
We are both fit at present, but what happens when we can no longer drive, or there is only one of us left? (How do we pay Spanish undertaker's upfront funeral costs when our savings have dwindled so far that a pre-paid plan is out of the question?)
We always accepted that we might have to move back to the U.K. at some time, but our freedom of choice in that decision has vanished.
WE are trapped and it's not a nice feeling.
Our income has fallen by 20+% and may fall further; our costs are escalating all the time.
The one saving grace is that we own our apartment with no mortgage!

I know a few couples in your situation pigs, that have the same concerns as you. Some of the couples that I know have recently suffered health problems which is also putting a major strain on their fast dwindling income, because of having to pay for care facilities privately. I know the British Legion has been fairly inundated with cries for help from pensioners in Spain that are getting into troubles and want to return to the UK.
A terrible situation to be in in later life.

Its not a short term solution but allows people to sell up and find sheltered accommodation here in Andalucia. There is a new concept launched over here called community resorts. Essentially it is sheltered accommodation or warden assisted for over 50´s all accomm is purpose built for wheelchair access, there are no steps so everywhere can be accessed easily, all resources are on hand including english speaking health and nursing care, pool spa, gym, and much more, a genuinely brilliant and forward thinking concept. Realistic options to finance it and the monthly maintenance fees which include all the essential warden etc services are 250 euros per month or 350 per couple which seem quite fair to me given the services provided for it and comparable to the UK. There are no community fees and it is a freehold property purchase, at very realistic prices geared to today´s market. I think the rules about advertising may prevent me from saying more but I have access to all the info and can get it sent to anyone who wants to know about it. I would certainly sign up for one and its a huge relief to me to know that this kind of thing will now be available here in Spain as I do not want to live in the UK permanently again.

Oh, and most importantly, it will be built on land that is urban direct and approved by the Junta as such since 1994!!!

Ready to move into 2010 so there is time to sell your property to be able to purchase there - some rental options may be available but this would work out more expensive of course on month to month living basis.

Huh! I would go through it with a fine toothcomb...haven't we heard it all before. Where are the pensioners in distress going to find this money anyway. :?

Now look what you've gone and done - I'm going back. My OH is working in London and I've been unsettled here for a while. Was contemplating new area of Spain, new school for my kids (no IT provision at our school for age 16+), new house, new friends ..................but what I really need is to go back. We've been here for almost 6 years and my kids seem happy with the prospect of returning so going to enjoy my last hot summer. I'm struggling a bit healthwise running the house etc so looking forward to some support and us being a family again. I need your help please - I pay into the system here and get Interferon for my MS . Can I assume that this will be dispensed to me in UK somehow? And any suggestions please for safe areas to rent a family home within commuting distance of London - it would appear that users of the forum are pretty widespread so would appreciate your thoughts. I found some lovely homes that are affordable in Suffolk area - but need to look at distance and schools etc. Many thanks.

There is one of those complexes in Alhaurin del Torre. Although when it was built a few years back it was pretty expensive to buy. Only the well heeled could afford an apartment there and the monthly fees that cover little to everything. I thought it was much like the tiering class system on Cunard cruises.
The "have nots" paid the least which may cover having a panic button in the apartment, and the "haves" paid the max which gave all the extras like nursing, medicals etc.
Have a friend whose father lives there, as he is one of the "haves" most of the ladies have been after him!!!

Gosh you didn't hang around making a decision Scot!!
Not great having a young family split up, so it will be a lot off your mind!

Suffolk is nice but I wouldn't call it commuting distance to London. Have you looked at Essex and Hertfordshire.

Paula - I've done the dogs blood tests a few months ago so think I was heading in the direction of UK mentally for a while :) Just need to get the cat to the vet next week which is easier said than done! I've become disillusioned (is this a word?) with Spain and feel relieved that my family are going to be back together again soon. I'll look online at Herts and Essex tomorrow and see if the rental prices are affordable for us. We are not homeowners anymore so makes the decision slightly easier to move. Thanks.
