Not according to this poster, like you I live in the real world, read the Spanish press daily, and know that the situation is a bit different to that that many here would have us believe! :D

On the Málaga webpage today.
Hallan dos hombres muertos por disparos en una finca de Alhaurín de la Torre

Dos detenidos por un tiroteo en el que resultaron heridos una mujer y un hombre

Also from the Telgraph:- "Risks of being assaulted were highest in the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden and Denmark and lowest in Italy, Portugal, Hungary, Spain and France."

I still have things in perspective, you have (statistically, I know :D ) a 30% higher chance of being "assaulted" in the UK then in the "averagely" violent european nation, Spain is well below the average.

Strangely, although many reports back the above, the chances of being murdered are pretty similar, only slightly higher in the UK, based on victims per 1000 of population.

[quote][according to posters on here there are no violent crimes and especially no spanish criminals!/quote] the way I see it is that posters on here know that crimes are not exclusive to Spain ...

A study carried out(on EU in general) reports that,
About 80 percent of discrimination and racially motivated violence crimes are unreported,

How do they know? They have interviewed the people, and they know it's a complete waste of time reporting it. On a personal level, we have had our hire car broken into twice, and I didn't report it for the same reasons, I'd be wasting my time. The first time in Sevilla, every car in the street was broken into, most having smashed windows, and I doubt that the visitors amongst those bothered to report it either. In Spain, unless you want a crime number for insurance purposes, most crimes carried out on viitors are a waste of time reporting, You'd be better off forgetting about it and getting on with your holiday. And that's what a lot obviously do, there is no point in hanging around a police station for hours whilst on holiday, especially when you know the police have no interest in investigating your problem, and absolutely no chance of solving it.

Hi Frog.
You were talking about unreported crime in Andalucia.
That could be global
When living in the U.K. someone climbed in through our living room window, (it was a sunny Sunday afternoon and we were upstairs) and stole my handbag!
It didn't cross my mind to report it.
Would anyone else?

"How do they know? They have interviewed the people"
and how can they be so sure that the people they interviewed told the truth....if they don´t report a crime maybe you can´t take their word!

Doesn't happen that often, but I agree with Frog. :D Except I'd have put it stronger than that, and would have added "naive". Nice thinking though, anyone that expresses anything that could be construed as negative thoughts about Spain is probably lying.

Hi Frank, naive I'm not, although I will grant you, I often give that impression

As I only quoted the bit with Julian's name in, I'd have thought it was more than obvious to whom I was referring. TBH, I hadn't even read what you had written, but if you are feeling left out, I can include you if you like. :)

Crime according to the Guardia I have spoken to has gone up in Spain by a whopping 40% since the recession hit

tends to be an unfortunatly logical result of recessions
"Last week The Independent revealed many police forces were reporting sharp increases in some offences as the recession started to bite in the final three months of 2008, with burglary and robbery doubling in some areas."

Its not exactly rocket science to work out is it.......why are people surprised? No money and no back up = higher crime rate to survive, higher crime rate normalises minor offences and de-sensitizes police and "victims" alike so minor offences not reported.......
