collecting plants for what?

Postby princess peach » Wed May 06, 2009 6:48 pm

I saw an old guy collecting red clover looking like plants,he had a whole bale cut and prised in between the cross bar on his moto. The plants were piled up high,it wouldve been amusing watching him getting his leg over to ride the moto..
anyone know what he was doing with the plants, what was he feeding?

Possibly sweet peas, long straggly stems and reddish-purple flowers.

Horses and mules are very partial to them, I know mine is.

If it was sweet peas maybe they were for his goats..the farmer who lives next to us told me his goats love them . He used to pick them all the time as a treat for them

no,they dont look anything like that picture.
they are deeper purple, crimson colour, and more like our UK clover heads only they seem longer and more stretched unlike our ball shaped clover petals.. :?
If i can get a pic of them up close i will.

PP,
This is red clover i think, trifolium pratense

I think it might be for personal use rather than animal use,you can make tea from it.

Been doing some digging ( ) and apparently it is used as a fodder crop for animals.
