Can anyone solve this
In an Advanced English class last night this question came up that nobody could get the answer to including me
The words have to be put in the correct order
You have to start with the underlined word
: Her job solving thing that kind whenever they crop involves problems up of :
I would be grateful if someone with a bit of time to spare could come up with the answer

Re: Can anyone solve this
Her kind of thing involves solving that kind of job problems whenever they crop up.
Re: Can anyone solve this
Not sure it's the correct answer, but a quick stab is,
Her job involves solving problems of that kind of thing whenever they crop up.
Her job involves solving problems of that kind of thing whenever they crop up.

Re: Can anyone solve this
Chuck in a few comma's and it makes more sense - Oh, the joys of English !
Re: Can anyone solve this
I think that's the correct answer given one must use all the words. However I can't see the need for the words 'of thing'. It reads, to me, more fluently as 'Her job involves solving problems of that kind whenever they crop up.' Does including those two extra words convey something different or something more?frank wrote:Not sure it's the correct answer, but a quick stab is,

Frank,
I think you got it.
It's kind of a strange expression, but the expression "KIND OF" needed to be practised as we were working on expression of vagueness. That's why thing was included.
This answer wasn't correct
"Her kind of thing involves solving that kind of job problems whenever they crop up."
because "that" is singular and couldn't go with "problems"
But don't worry many native English speakers fail these exams for non natives because the English is different to the way we natives speak it.

Re: Can anyone solve this
In my class on wednesday,I tried again to do the puzzle. And again I couldn't do it
I've just had another look at Frank's answer and I've just realised that it isn't correct after all because the word "of" is used twice
Anybody else????????????

Mowser's answer looks right to me! Not much hope for our Spanish if we can't cope with our mother tongue!
The past cannot be changed, but the present can be spoilt by worrying about the future

Thanks Jool.
I think that's it
Mower's stab didn't work Grammatically
Sometimes there are mistakes in the books,so there was always the Possibility in the back of my mind it couldn't be done.

Re: Can anyone solve this
Sorry Jool. That can't be correct. The phrase "job solving problems" is plural and needs the verb following to be "involve."Jool wrote:Her job solving problems involves that kind of thing whenever they crop up

See post above. What part is ungrammatical?
Dave
Re: Can anyone solve this
Mowser - Doesn´t the word "involves" have to grammatically match with "they" and thus is correct?
I also wondered if it could be done as it is not a very elegant sentence at all.

job is singular - ain't it? unless she's double jobbing, that kind of thing

Re: Can anyone solve this
I believe you are correct. I mistook it for job-solving problems (with hyphen) which would be plural.Colinm wrote:job is singular - ain't it? unless she's double jobbing, that kind of thing
Oops to me!
