Hi freecatsrus,
Can you confirm that you're running Vista
If so, have a Google ...........missing folders in vista
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/14846 ... older.html
You will get similar to above.................just read at his stage unless this is your problem.

Re: Lost User Folders
I agree about back-up.
External hard drives are cheap these days. I have a 1 terabyte which cost around £68 from either eBuyer or Amazon.
I use Acronis True Image Home as the back-up program. It's not free, normally but...............

Re: Lost User Folders
Hi,
Windows 7 backup is a good addition to the OS so you would only need a second drive either external /internal to get up and running.
A few of us on A.com use Acronis True Image Home 2010, I see a well know online retailer in UK is doing it for £27.37............would recommend it for XP ,but I would use the backup that comes with Windows 7 on that OS.

Re: Lost User Folders
That didnt work, didnt show an option to pick for yesterdays version.
Must have been something in the item I was downloading that caused the prob.
Strange though when I do properties on the User folder it tells me there 4GB of files there, but still wont show them.
I do back up regularly and have a 500 GB and a 1TR portable hard drives, but hadnt backed yesterday, so only 1 days work lost.
Thanks for your help, but looks like reinstall if my backup doesnt work off the portable hard drive

Re: Lost User Folders
Hey problem solved, one of the first things i did was to check if the folders had become hidden again, they were still unticked.
One of the things I always do is untick the boxes for Show hidden files and Hide protected, also untick the box for Hide extensions when i install any windows systems.
But I never noticed that the box Hide protected operating systems had become ticked, why it did that is strange, the wonders of Windows I suppose again.
Anyway many thanks for your help

Re: Lost User Folders
Hi feecatsrus,
Good to hear that you're now sorted.
Would be worth increasing your backup frequency especially as it's work.
Using the two external drives one to backup onto and the other to move the backups over every so often so you have at least two backup copies.
