The fire started on Monday afternoon. We used the Mijas road to get to the coast but when we returned we could see the fire very close to the pueblo and water bombers were flying over. The road was closed and was apparantly still shut yesterday but not sure of the situation today. Hopefully someone will come along with an update and more importantly I hope there were no injuries or too much damage. It was awful to see the hillside in flames and so dangerously close to Mijas.

There's a report on here:
http://www.malagahoy.es/article/malaga/ ... mijas.html
Seems that some bodged illegal wiring at a transformer in the Puerto Colorado area affected about 8 hectares. This is the same area that is recovering from the disastrous fire in 2001 that affected 500 hectares.

Thanks for the info guys.

It doesn't seem too bad. We were in Mijas in 2001 (gosh was it so long ago) when the big fire raged over the hill. I can still smell the smoke just thinking about it.

Lets hope that is the end of it for this year

Up our way the ayuntamiento has issued a letter stating if you own land in the campo that is deemed dirty (rat infested) and/or a fire hazzard they will be fining you 60 - 150€. Theys should add an extra 0 - that may make people sit up and do something! Our road burns out every year, always from the same plot!
