Are there any "kwik Fit type" places that re gas air con systems and check for leaks in cars, also any idea how much it costs?

I've got details of a mobile engineer who i think is based around Coin, who will come to the house, does the UV leak check. lubricates and re-gas etc for 25 euros. He did my neighbours car and seemed to do a good job. I've no affiliation to him just recommended by my neighbour. I'll PM details if you require.

The pollen filter, if clogged, can seriously affect the performance of the air-con.
If it has not been changed for a while, I would be surprised if YOU were not surprised by the cooler air it then pumps out!
Ours is being changed at the cars annual service, scheduled or not, next week!

Not meant to be a daft question but what does the pollen filter do?
Does it only affect the air con?
Doubt if mine has ever been changed,
Probably clogged with dust given where I live.

Hi Gerry,
All you wanted to know about Pollen Filters..................

http://www.puravent.co.uk/filters/purav ... design.htm

Probably need to change them every 6 months out here (Spain) , annually in UK.

Not all vehicles have them fitted but it is more likely to be in the 'cabin' of the car, best consult you handbook for whereabouts. It will probably be referred to as the cabin filter.

Most of the ones I've changed are under the cabin air intake grills.

Thanks Enrique, Now I know where to look perhaps without that music playing though. Will have a look next time in Spain and will report success or otherwise.

I have just been to Malaga and while there went to Los Patios where Carrefour are, there is a motor workshop in the car park that does all sorts of things such as tyres, brakes, radios etc all while you wait, I asked about looking at my faulty aircon and they booked it in , gave me a price and told me to come back in one hour, so went to cafe and returned to find car all ready, they had checked for leaks and regassed it all for 52 euros, very helpful staff even with a smile .

Thanks for the link SL, have ordered filters and will give it a try. If it does not work then off to one of the auto garages suggested.

Thanks for the link SL, Ordered 2 filters that arrived the following day. Went to fit them but only 1 needed as the other side where the second filter should be located is taken up with the windscreen wiper arms.

and is the air con cooler / does the car now not smell musty?

"technically".. thats a "cabin filter" (on alot of cars) thats where the hot/cold air blows thru. the filters are normally white - mine was dark grey / black when i changed it.. lol .. i reckon its due for renewal soon, might get me one off ebay.

glad you got it sorted, did it need re-gassing?

Why did you order 2? there's only 1 fitted and very expensive on this site, I would shop around next time.

Fair point SL, as you say, ebay is probably a better option.

Have not tried out the air con yet as I hired a car this time round. The test will come in the summer months.
