AP-46 Toll Road near Malaga

Postby RitaW » Wed Aug 18, 2010 10:23 am

Hi. Does anyone know if this toll road is open yet to travellers? Did Google directions from La Cala to Portugal and gives this stretch as part of the route. However when you zoom in on the map there doesn't seem to be a road there. Any information gratefully recieved.

Hi RitaW,
Was on the A-45 to Malaga yesterday, didn't see any signs to AP-46

The trusty Michelin on-line map indicates that its not finished yet. :(

The route only exists on Google and a few other maps.

On the ground there are a few bridges, some still to be decked out, and some earthworks. The portals for the tunnel near Casabermeja are constructed but there has not been much tunnelling done.

I think works have stopped indefinitely.

So it's back to the old A-45 I am afraid.

Hi ajtg1952 ,
On a similar note how is the "new" A-7 West of Malaga progressing. :?:

Very slowly is the honest answer.

The east online intersection is complete. Black topped, lined and signed, as they say. The bridge over the Rio Guadalhorce is decked and should be surfaced by now. This is the easier leg with fairly simple earthworks and a few small to medium structures.

The real civil engineering is on the west section, as can be seen at the main line interchange near Torremolinos. Not sure when this will open.

I suspect the east section will open soon giving access to the airport, though this will not be the preferred route. The preferred route will be via the A-7 and onto the new dedicated link being constructed at the moment. This passes very close to Leroy Merlin. Most of the piers are in place and the decking is progressing. It will probably open at the same time as the new airport runway.

My TomTom thinks it's all up and running. It also thinks that the autovía between Málaga and Almería is completed.

Thanks to all. So basically coming from the Fuengirola direction I just stay on the A7 until I come on to to the A-45. Then on my merry way!

Hi Beach, The road between Malaga and Almeria is not finished. 30 miles of the old road from south of motril to well past castell de ferro. I was on it last week.

Depends on the brand of Satnav and which mapping system they use.

The new road from Malaga to Motril continuing onto Almeria has been stopped due to lack of funds, from just before Adra the road is finished straight through now , but I think it may be a while before the road from Albunol area going to Malaga will be finished.
