Problems with MAPFRE

Postby Mowser » Tue Sep 07, 2010 7:41 pm

Yesterday I got a call from my renter who told me that the solar system had "exploded." I contacted MAPFRE immediately who came round quickly and took the filter away. I contacted MAPFRE this morning and was told I wasn't covered. I then contacted the local MAPFRE agent during most of the day. She checked my policy and confirmed I WAS covered. She then contacted MAPFRE to tell them to either repair or replace the filter. So far ... nothing. Despite numerous phone calls there has been no progress.

The agent phoned again this evening and said she had left numerous messages with MAPFRE saying it was urgent. I changed to this company as I had heard good reports about them. I'll not be renewing our policies with them next year.

Am I alone in finding problems with them? I had to make two house claims when I was with a previous insurer and the response was excellent-ish. They started off by saying I wasn't insured, then after a threat to report them to the ombudsman, I got a phone call saying "an error" had occurred and I WAS covered.

End of rant.

I have Mapfre for my Bike and car and I've had to use them a couple of times in emergencies and found them to be excellent.

However as a renter, I don't have home insurance so I don't know what their service is like on that front.

My impression is that they are a motor insurance specialist.
I'm currently trying to get a quote from them for Resposibilidad Civil but am not getting much joy. Meanwhile Catalan Occidental produced a quote within 24 hours.

I think different companies are better a different insurance types but I don't know who the Home Insurance specialists are.

The Marbella branch of MAPFRE are notorious for trying everything they can to not pay out. They pay but as a last resort.
Oh Yes! another day in paradise!

Update ...
The plumber from MAPFRE took away the filter. Agent phoned to tell him to return it. He said it was the action of the sun that deteriorated the filter.

1 The filter is underneath the panel and is in shade 24/7

2 The plastic filter is crystal clear with no whitening caused by the sun

3 I informed MAPFRE about this. They said the water pressure in the apartment was too great (what a laugh - high water pressure in Frigiliana). They say I've to submit the bill from the local plumber and MAPFRE will bill the town hall. (Blood/stone comes to mind)

4 Local plumber is now changing the filter

5 MAPFRE wanted €300 to change the filter. Local plumber wants €100 to source, buy & install.

I agree. If this were 200 years ago, most of these guys would be sailing with Cap'n Jack Sparrow.

New filter bought and installed by local British worker who has been in the village for years. Totally legal, he has a full time team of workers (likewise all legal) for gas & water repairs & installations, emergencies, electric repairs, extensions, new builds, swimming pools, house change-overs etc. Total price was €85.00.

Now off to submit the factura to MAPFRE.

(The problem is the water supply ... it's too strong. Now I've to put a formal complaint to the town hall and get them to install a reduction valve..... Aye - that will happen).

don´t you have a mains tap where you can shut off the water where it enters your house in case of burst pipe etc..can´t you shut that slightly to reduce the pressure?

No, you can't do that.
A valve will reduce flow, but not the pressure.
You need a good quality pressure limiting device. About €30 - €40, and set it to about 2.5 bar.
