We're moving to Alhaurin e G in a few weeks and I'm not sure about cost effectiveness of freighting our lounge suite from SA. Where in the area would I be likely to find good quality used furniture? I did visit the La Trocha market when I was over in April but there wasn't much on offer.
I've seen adverts by people buying house contents, but where do they sell the stuff afterwards?

Re: Second-hand Lounge Furniture
There is a shop on the poligono ( industrial area ) just outside A el Grande. They specialise in second hand furniture and some of it is quite good. He often runs a stall at Trocha- there is occassionally some decent stuff if someone is leaving. He recently purchased a lot of new things from Villa pac when they closed down not so long ago. He has been selling those things at good prices and I recently bought a new bed from him.
Nice people, they will deliver for you and if there is something you want and he hasn't got it, he will look out for it for you. He did that for me and was back in touch within the week with exactly the item I wanted.
Another good source for you is Friday ad.es - you can check this on line where you are and you will get some really good bargains from them. They often have lounge furniture and everything you need to completely furnish a place at a very cheap price.
We moved here from South America and our goods were shipped to the port at Algeciras. There was a massive import tax to pay which we didn't find out until it was rather late so do look into the cost effectiveness. Fortunately our company paid but had we been responsible for it, I don't think I would have sent the shipment.

Re: Second-hand Lounge Furniture
As Anis points out, don't forget the import tax. Not a problem if coming from an EU country as it won't apply but from outwith the EU it can be quite a hefty bill. Check out the rates. I believe it is about 20% of the value of the goods but I am sure there are forum members that can give more accurate figures, or links to find them out.
I've got an inferiority complex, but it's not a very good one!

Thanks for that guys,
Anis, I will definitely check out those places you have mentioned when I arrive. Getting quite excited now - less than five weeks to go!
Cheers,
Ann

If you are coming to Spain from outside the EU and become resident then you can import your "goods and chattels" free of import duty.Campo Steve wrote:As Anis points out, don't forget the import tax.
