Registering a Spanish microchip on the UK datbase

Postby annfoto » Sat Sep 24, 2011 12:03 pm

I have a friend who has returned to England with her dog. She took it to her local vet in England and was told that he couldn't register it on the UK database as he was only able to register chips that he implanted. Anyone got any ideas on what she needs to do?

That's strange because many years ago we imported a dog from Spain and didn't have a problem.

That sounds decidedly iffy to me.I would ask your friend to check with another vet first.

Hi,
Seems Petlog are mentioned ........is this the Central Data Base for UK :?:

PetLog is the national central database run by the Kennel Club

"if your pet is microchipped, don't forget to inform Petlog, who manage the central database, if you move house or change any details including your mobile phone number. You will receive details on how to do this when the animal is microchipped. Petlog can be contacted on 0844 4633 999 or visit http://www.petlog.org.uk"

Added:: Just phoned my UK vet but think it was "The Saturday" girl so not a good answer, will try on Monday :D

Hi Enrique,
It seems that that was her problem.
From their website
When you are booking your pet into the vets make sure the microchips they use are associated with the Petlog database, to ensure you are covered by the UK's largest pet reunification database.
Is there no government database in the UK?

Hi annfoto,

"is there no government database in the UK?"

Not come across one. :(

The ones in Spain are Regional , having had a query in Cantabria the vet had to phone my vet in Andalucia to get the info.

My vet here changed Petlog Uk chips on to the Murcian database so I can't see why they can't change a spanish one on to their system.

I enquired at 2 vets in the UK. The first asked for £30 per animal. The second did it for free.

I've recently got another rescue dog from Spain and registered his Spanish chip on PetRAC if that's any use?
