Re: twitter button
I find it a pain to have too many friend on Facebook because loads of irrelevent stuff is posted
I started it just to stay in contact with my son who went on a school trip to the USA a couple of years back. I also found it quite nice to see photos he was posting while he was there.
These days it's quite handy to keep in touch with members of the family.

Re: twitter button
In principle both are great inventions. Downside is Twitter is full of advertising spam and facebook is full of nutters. OK for 14 yr olds.
Sometimes I think people put stuff on facebook just to show try to show the world they are a perfect family living the dream. Bit like those round robin mails you get at Xmas...."Charles has passed all his exams, Clarissa has a top job and we had a perfect holiday in the Mango Islands....yadda, yadda.

Re: twitter button
I came late and reluctantly to FB, but as you say it can be useful depending how you use it. I've got a few more friends than DA (only a few) but I have never asked anyone to be my friend, just real friends and family that have asked me. As a walker and photographer, I use it mainly for info on local events, what's happening where, things I would never normally know about. It's a one stop shop for me to find out what's happening in my area. I have hardly ever written anything, post a few photos, read a few Spanish sites, but that's about it really. I quickly block anything I don't like, have no personal details available, and certainly don't use it as a chat site. Recently someone has been posting loads of really old local photos, I've really enjoyed looking through those. Twitter? Start without me!Julie wrote:I use facebook just for family and close friends, It can be a good thing , depending on how one uses it, don't understand the twitter thing

Re: twitter button
Twitter is full of celebs twittering about something that are getting paid to promote...or you can follow someone spouting *beep*.
Facebook, I worry about the privacy aspect. One friend put a photo of me on a school trip to Paris Another person I know had to ask for some photos of herself and her house to be removed. I don't post on it and I don't particularly want to get mentioned on other peoples sites. The most amazing thing I often see is eg. someone wishing their Husband Happy birthday and saying what a wonderful person they are....can't they just tell them in person.

Re: twitter button
Yup
I too have steadfastly stuck my head in the sand re Twitter until very recently.
However, used in the right way, it makes for an exceptional business promotion tool. If your competitors have a presence on Twitter, then you're missing out, like it or not. Tweets have to be short and so the trick is to link to your website, your blog, FAQs, whatever. You have to provide something of interest that your followers on Twitter will appreciate and re-tweet. Dissemination of information! Don't underestimate it ;o)
You can pick and choose who you follow - if you're not interested in celebs etc, you simply don't follow them and you can remain forever oblivious to their ramblings.
It's also a great way to keep up-to-date with the latest news in whatever your field of interest is...delivered straight to you (if you're following the "right" sources) without having to trawl through online newspapers and journals.
Even our fine hosts have a twitter presence @andalucia_com and @michellechaplow
Don't knock it til you've tried it! @Surveyor_Spain
