I prefer them to Rioja. Was thinking of taking this tour but OH thinks it will be full of boring wine snobs.

Did a tour of Napa Valley wineries some years ago and that was good. Advantage of being in a group is that the owner usually shows you round the smaller ones and you get perks 8) If anyone is travelling leisurely through France back to Spain a stop at Moet et chandon is good.

PS when I was posting about the El Monasterio I was actually drinking a nice Australian....half price at Tesco online £5 :D

The cost of alcoholic drink here really makes a nonsense of the Brit government's moves on pricing - if price was the only factor then the Spanish would be permanently in a haze! It seems to me to be part of the total lack of parental guidance given on how to behave - the problem is that they are already two generations on from when this was done properly, so standards are beyond recall. Those of us born around the end and just after the end of WWII were taught not to cheek adults in general, and policemen and teachers in particular, and lots of other ways to behave that meant we did little to spoil anyone else's lives, with real sanctions for disobedience up to and including physical punishment - it now seems almost totally "me, me, me"!

I don't think pricing would make a difference. Those who drink to get drunk will still pay a few pounds more.

Not exclusively a British thing, happens in other European countries too. The botellón in Spain is a bigger problem each year. Some pics here
