stocking up on food
I'll be spending a week in Marbella next week and I want to stock up on food. Any suggestions for shops to buy from would be helpful.

Mercadona's good
Re: stocking up on food
I always shopped at Alcampo in Marbella, easy parking and handy for anything else you may need. French owned so some of their own brands are good. Fruit and veg not so good but probably as good as any other super.
Have a great time

Re: stocking up on food
I forgot to mention I want to stock up on British food as there are plenty of Spanish supermarkets in Bilbao.

In that case make a stop at Iceland Fuengirola, they have some Waitrose products too.

SuperSol I have both mercadona and supersol near me and find each have good choice (and english food if thats what you want). Aldi in Estepona for certain lines.
Re: stocking up on food
Our Supersol didn't sell much English food...odd lines that's all, not enough for a stock up It was a nasty shop too, fruit was thrown on top of the old batch and was always full of fruit flies.
We used to do a monthly stock up in Gibraltar only about 40 mins from Marbella but I suppose you won't want to waste your holiday doing that.

If you are shopping at Alcampo in La Canada at Marbella you can go upstairs towards the end - you will find M&S and in the corner at the back there is a tiny food department.
In Gibraltar there is a large Morrisons.

You can spend, minutes, hours, days, weeks or even months over-analyzing a situation; trying to put the pieces together, justifying what could've, would've happened - or you can just leave the pieces on the floor and move the f**k on.
Re: stocking up on food
Give us a clue on what English foods you want to stock up on.
Are we talking pies, bangers, bacon,HP sauce ,that type of thing?

Re: stocking up on food
IMHO apart from excellent big packs of bacon - especially smoked - all the 'worth getting' stuff in Iceland is frozen, so you would need a plug-in coolbox, and shop there just before going back to base.

I think Mark was looking for British food rather than specifically just English! In any case, HP sauce is actually made in the Netherlands.Nimrod wrote

Re: stocking up on food
Thanks for your replies,
I'm really looking for things like tea, sweet pickles,gravy.etc. Frozen food isn't an option because of the long return journey.
I seem to remember someone giving advice some time back about a shop in a big shopping centre near Mijas. It wasn't Iceland though.

It sounds like Iceland but you have to remember that they are a separate company who just happen to stock some frozen Iceland products. The actual company is Overseas SL http://overseas.es/markwilding wrote:Thanks for your replies,

They also stock a large range of dried/canned goods etc and some fresh produce like cheese and bacon, pasties etc.

Re: stocking up on food
I think maybe you could get what you want in Dunnes Stores which is very close to the Iceland store in Fuengirola
It's an Irish company...imagine a slightly inferior copy of Marks and Spencer.
They stock a whole range of familiar products nothing wrong with their stuff but not quite m&S

That would be the store inside the Miramar centre, opposite the entrance to the Eroski hipermarket. They carry a good range of non-frozen stuff, refreshingly price everything in whole Euros, and are friendly and helpful staff, as one might expect from Asian folk.

Strange, coming from Bilbao, a port used by uk ferries that you have no access to uk products?
