No major damage here fortunately.

Here are a few links to some distressing pictures of the devastation.

There is a video over on www.diariosur.es showing the river running through Villanueva del Trabuco. As it is being filmed the side of a building collapses and several vehicles float out into the river!

Does anyone know how Cuevas Bajas got on? Friends had a house there, the village always flooded so the river was widened and bridges made higher.

Also has anyone heard how avellana is as I think she lives in/near Villanueva del Trabuco?

We're fine as we live in the high part of Villanueva del Trabuco but the lower parts of the village were very badly affected.
Spent Friday afternoon sweeping out the mud and water from the English Academy where I'll be teaching. Same on Saturday in order to have a children's party for a 50 year old with trifle, jelly, pass the parcel and musical chairs!
I spent two hours at the municipal gym this morning clearing mud and frogs.
The Río Guadalhorce has its source just outside Trabuco.
You Tube has lots of videos of both Villanueva del Trabuco y Villanueva del Rosario, the next village towards Málaga.
Here are a couple

This one shows the river CROSSING two bridges in the village.

I am very glad to hear that you are safe, avellana, but so sorry to hear what has happened to the village.

To bypass the collapsed bridge at Puerto Lumbreras/Lorca.

It would appear to be now, 2 lanes on the autovia in the direction of Almeria with the traffic to Murcia using the service road , as from 9pm tonight. From 9 pm tomorrow night it will be 1 lane in each direction ON the autovia , using the undamaged side.
