Most companies start you on a three month temporary contract and will take home about €1000. If they like you and you like them they can then legally give you one more three month temporary contract and up you money to about €1200. Tax and Seguridad Social should be paid on top by the company. Then then have to give you a permanent contract (Indefinido) by law.
So what they say your salary is you take home that is unless they class you as self employed and you then have to pay Social and tax yourself.
The minimum wage in Spain is €600 for a 40 hour week however you get an extra months pay in Summer and an extra month pay at xmas = 15 months pay. This is the law explained to me by Spanish colleagues at my place of work.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Ian

If someone is "properly" employed then don't forget they receive the extra 2 months payment per annum and their employer will be paying their national insurance, which otherwise for a self employed person would be €240 per month. So, if you factor those in the real monthly wage is nearer to the self employed equivalent of €840 in effect.
Not that I'm saying the above ideal scenario always occurs of course.

No special reason, I was just wondering how you manage, I wish you luck getting a full time job, It's nice to hear from someone who's just getting on with it instead of moaning, like some seem to!spanish_lad wrote:i work when work is avaliable - i am a labourer / elecricians m8 / plumbers m8 / gardener / work with removal companies etc .. so when there is work avaliable they call me and i go to work... Actually not true; the employer can actually give the employee a maximum of 3 contracts in a 12 month period and then must either give and indefinido contract or terminate employment immeditely.
We employ staff on an initial 3 month and then either extend to 6+3 or 9 month contract before indefinido or termination of contract.
Also regarding the 14 month pay, many employers take this into account at the beginning of a contract and build it into the monthly salary rather than paying 2 months extra, more is added to each months pay.

Sassy, I'm not questioning your integrity or interpretation of the law, but are you sure that last bit's legal, the bit about, building the extra into the monthly salary. As I understood it, you have, by law to pay the extra two months seperately, although I'm not an employer, just seeking clarification because I will soon be employing someone on a permanent basis (if it's cost effective) and need to be clear about this, thanks!

i hate not knowing where the money is coming from each month...i worry about the next week, let alone the month - i´ve got to pay all the bills.. it leaves me very little to live on. i´m behind on my town hall taxes, i have no animal food left, my car insurance is due soon, and i´m almost out of gas (butane)...Syd Barrett wrote:No special reason, I was just wondering how you manage, I wish you luck getting a full time job, It's nice to hear from someone who's just getting on with it instead of moaning, like some seem to!spanish_lad wrote:i work when work is avaliable - i am a labourer / elecricians m8 / plumbers m8 / gardener / work with removal companies etc .. so when there is work avaliable they call me and i go to work...
