roast carrots with honey, and a little ginger.yummy

The multi stew packs that DIA sell both in Albox, Baza, huercal Overa, Vera have (usually) parsnips, carrots celery, leeks, and swedes in them.
The swedes arent anywhere as big as u one might be used to and not normally the same colour, much paler, but taste the same, Buy several of those and thats your veg taken care of.
My local butcher will - given enough warning- get any meat or cut you ask for, turkey, goose, beef.. whatever.

Plenty of decorations available in small local village shops. Houses and streets well decorated. Even plenty of life size Santas, placed climbing over roof tops balconies etc..

Activities for the locals.. last year they had a bingo night, 2300hrs on xmas day...... didnt join in though, nor did any other brits to my knowledge

Just thought I'd mention I saw fresh parsnips in Euromarket Fuengirola at the weekend .They had plenty, so they must be widely available.

I personally am off to the Canaries again for Xmas, to spend it in the sun with friends, best to make your own fun and not rely too much on finding it within a country
Canaries..great Spanish Islands, nice place to spend Christmas.
Hope you are taking your Mum
England as much as I love it is incredibly expensive and so a lump some is my only real option if I'm to spend long periods of quality time with my mother who's recently been diagnosed with a slow developing terminal illness.
with you, although seeing that you
haven't experienced a Christmas in UK for 15 years
you could always change your mind.
a country who don't go in for the mass commercialism that we Brits have been brought up with.
Gosh that does makes us sound really important :!:
Can't say I've ever seen the Spanish having a food shopping frenzy
Take another look..in January.. if you can get close enough to see...reminds me of oxford st first day of the sales.
Spanish restaurant that I'd previously eaten lovely meals in. It was expensive and the Menu read as being Traditional British

Best place to eat a traditional British meal or Christmas dinner is an English restaurant.
parsnips (yuk) (of the frozen variety) haven't seen any fresh ones.
The frozen ones you get are imported from UK... In high class veg shops fresh parsnips are available.
If you want to experience a really good Christmas in the Canaries forget the brit swamped Islands of Tenerife, Gran Canaria etc (where you can be assured of a nightly spectacle of throwing up and punch ups by the less civilised).
Head for La Palma (La Isla Bonita) specifically the small towns of "Tazacorte" and "Los LLanos" where you will be assured of a great Xmas, the new year too is very special with the whole town converging on the local sports complex for a 10 euro (yes 10 euro) buffet including as much food and wine as you can handle, don't take my word for it go!
Another interesting point is, if, like me, you are a cigar afficionado you will get hand rolled cigars made from the same tobacco leaf as they have in Cuba (it's a historical thing) for about 5 euros each, great place and the temperature will never drop below 25 during the day, great nature too!

For all you parsnip addicts, the Brit Essentials Shop on the top road in Alhaurin el Grande sell fresh english parsnips in December. I say English as you can grow them in Spain but due to the heat they are quite small. Dont forget a good parsnip does need a good frost to give it that va voom!!!

Parsnips readily available in most of the big supermarkets, such as Eroski and Euromarket.
