In and out of Gibraltar Sunday
In and out of Gibraltar Sunday
Going to visit Gibraltar on Sunday and wondered what to expect at the crossing, is it busy on that day ? what time would be best to enter and leave ? thanks.

How long is a piece of string !!... Sometimes it's good and sometimes it's bad. Just go and take it as it comes. Enjoy the experience.
Re: In and out of Gibraltar Sunday
We found it a good day for food shopping, though banks and some smaller shops are closed. Border queues are smaller as the traffic is the other way with people leaving Gibraltar for the beaches.
Re: In and out of Gibraltar Sunday
Went to Gibraltar yesterday ( sunday ), arrived there at 10.30 am and drove straight in did not even have to stop at border, left there at 6pm and again drove straight out with no stopping, all very good, as a matter of interest I took the toll road from Malaga and it costs 19 euros return but saves a lot of hassle, the only minus was that I went to drive over the High Rock road and was told that it would cost 10 pounds per person plus 2 pounds for car which seems a lot as there was four of us the total would be 42 pounds, it did include entrance to caves etc which I did not want but that was the only admission package available, there was an area where you can turn car around and that was very busy !!

Curatokid,
Hope that you don't mind me asking , but can you recommend a good place to park on the Gibraltar side ?.
I normally park in La Linea and walk over but would prefer to park in Gib., if it's not too much hassle.
Any advice from anyone would be appreciated.
Regards,
Gordon

Re: In and out of Gibraltar Sunday
There is a big multi storey car park above BHS. Charges are reasonable. Drive into town and keep the town wall to your left and it's the first car park you come to. Further on there is an road level car park which is free at the weekend. If that's full then keep going and there is a big car park at the bottom cable car station. You pay for this one. There is also on street parking, again just outside the walls. I think this is free at the weekends.

There's also Morrison's car park - 3 hours free and it's do-able to shop there and walk into Main Street as well (if that's what floats your boat - it does for Mrs Trooperman )can you recommend a good place to park on the Gibraltar side ?.

Trooperman,
Many Thanks for adding that and yes I think that I will probably have an empty wallet after my Wife receives her retail therapy.

The daily mail now has the story. The first picture is of all the Spanish workers queuing to get out of Gib. Nice move on their own people, the thousands of Spanish who work there because their own Government can't provide them with work or benefits

Thanks for that link Mr Monky....v.interesting.
Re: In and out of Gibraltar Sunday
There are around 5000 Spanish workers in Gibraltar, shooting themselves if the foot comes to mind. Real decent paid jobs too. It was said in 2007 that Spanish workers earned £43 million in Gibraltar. Probably green eyed because Gibraltar hasn't had a recession. If Spain took it over it would turn into an extention of the shítéhole that is La linea.

The Gibraltar queue is on the headlines on Radio 5 Live. Good to see mainstream media picking it up.

Re BBC....
"Spain is considering a 50 Eur fee to cross its border with Gibraltar, amid a row over an artificial reef.
Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo told a Spanish newspaper that the proceeds would "help fishermen affected by the destruction of fishing grounds"
That should put a cat amongst the pigeons, or should that be amongst the apes ?
anyroads

The Mail has this bit wrong
Such a charge could impose punitive costs on Gibraltarians who regularly commute into Spain to work.
It is the other way round with 8 to 10 thousand Spanish commuting to Gib for work.

No more shopping trips, Morrisons will have to close down!
Re: In and out of Gibraltar Sunday
Not content with effing up their own country the Spanish want everyone around them to be effed up to.
Complete and utter fwits.
Is there only one border crossing at La Linea or is there another way in and out
