Fair comment but I was merely saying that I thought Spanish prices were cheaper than the UK. Unfortunately most of the UK prices that people have quoted were on the NHS which makes them completely irrelevant. Thanks Katy for quoting a proper price.
So, it was my fault but back to Spanish dentists now please.

For anyone prepared to travel I would highly rate Dr.Tony Nielsen he is very gentle and does all the cosmetic stuff too. Based in Elviria, Marbella. Not the cheapest but the best and I had a few.

You can check here to see if your dentist has been a naughty boy or girl:
http://www.gdc-uk.org/Membersofpublic/H ... -list.aspx
The list runs to thirty pages and there is at least one dentist named who is practising in Spain who was struck off by the General Dental Council several years ago and has had his application for reinstatement rejected.

I have just deleted three posts about the UK NHS dental service which I had previously pointed out was irrelevant to this thread.
Please can we get back to Spanish dentistry.

Re: Dentists and dental insurance... argh!!!!!
Returning to the OP... We were in exactly the same position. At our first appointment with the Prevision Medica approved dentist she told us not to bother renewing the insurance next year. The reduction on the standard price list that the insurance policy qualifies you for is mostly trivial eg. 45 euros for my filling without insurance, 42 euros with. The pattern was the same for all the complicated treatments too. I'm not sure if this has always been the case or whether it is due to the greater competition now between dentists.

Hi Superplonk,
Do you know if there is an English speaking dentist in Coin? There seem to be dental clinics on every other street corner!

Re: Dentists and dental insurance... argh!!!!!
I always used the local dentist in the village - she was trained and worked in Madrid for years and her partner actually commutes 3 days a week to the village from Madrid. No point in me recommending her - Casariche is miles away! What I would say is ask the locals who they use, dentistry prices in most spanish dentists are reasonable - last time I paid 30€ for a filling - the English speaking dentist in Esteppa wanted 90€ for the same work.
(Oh and BTW my dentist here is Spanish - from Seville and there is another Spaniard at the practice who comes fro Marchena - small world!)

When I lived in Spain the quote from the Spanish private dentist was about the same as my UK private dentist.El Cid wrote:Fair comment but I was merely saying that I thought Spanish prices were cheaper than the UK. British NHS dentistry is cheaper, but does not include every sort of work (you can only have a scale and polish if medically necessary e.g. and you won't get implants on the NHS) and anyway NHS dentists are like gold dust.
Now I'm back in the UK we pay £50 a month for Denplan and that is for me, my husband and our son. This includes everything the dentist does ( you pay extra for things done in the lab), and includes three check-ups and hygienist visits a year. Covers you when abroad too
Is there a comparable insurance in Spain?

I repent in sackcloth and ashes. Please do not banish me to eternal ban-dom for committing this heinous sin! I'll try not to do it again, promise!
Re: Dentists and dental insurance... argh!!!!!
I shall refer to this thread the next time I post an item about Spain and the usual culprits come on and say "What about the UK then"
Anyway, lets get back on topic...Spanish dentists. Quebin may get offended again. Although I would have thought NHS charges would have been relevant seeing the amount of people who seem to pop back to the UK for health treatment
