Germaline.
Germaline.
Hello, can anyone tell me if it is possible to buy old fashioned Germaline, or is there a Spanish equivalent of it?
Thank you,
Allgram.

Re: Germaline.
It's a very old product containing Phenol, the stuff you find in Carbolic Soap.
I think it is still produced but there are loads of more up to date antiseptic products on the market.
I am sure you know "Savlon" - which has the active ingredient "Cetrimide". It is used extensively in the UK in hospitals and is bound to be available in Spain in generic form either as a liquid or cream - powder even.
Ask the chemist for something containing Cetrimida.
Incidentally it is one of the few "human" antiseptics you can safely use on animals.

Re: Germaline.
May I just point out that I'm sure that the correct spelling for this product is 'Germolene', now I only advise this because if you have the correct spelling it may be easier to find.
So I think that you mean the old fashioned pink gluggy type ointment that smelt healthy and cured you quickly.?
We still have a part used tin that's probably about 20 years out of date, but I'm keeping it until it becomes a real collectable.
I also have, in my old tin collection a circa 1930's Germolene very rusty tin and an old bottle of Veno's cough mixture .
Regards,
Gordon

Re: Germaline.
I bought a tube of sting relief ointment with Cetrimida in it. It may have been at the parafarmacia or the droguería. It smells like germolene.

Re: Germaline.
Sorry about the "germoline" spelling, but out of 5 replies only 2 serious answers.
I give up.

Allgram,
I've asked around for you and I'm advised that most have bought it from UK or ordered it from such as Amazon, I think I've seen it on sale in some of the smaller Brit shops, , maybe worth a try.
Hope this helps,
Regards,
Gordon.
ps. I wasn't trying to be a spelling policeman, just trying to confirm that the product was the one that I thought it was.

Re: Germaline.
The Brit shop in Puente don Manuel offer to get stuff from the U.K. for customers, that's a bit far from you I suppose but possibly other Brit shops would also offer that service, might be worth asking.
You could try this new place http://www.nerjanow.com/best-of-british/

Re: Germaline.
My OH asked for TCP ointment in a major pharmacy chain in the UK, to be told in a very superior manner that no such thing had ever existed.....as she had a tube here in Spain (confirmed on her return) it merely supported my belief that one should never believe anything that anyone ever tells you - unless it is Beachcomber or El Cid of course!

Re: Germaline.
Years ago I had access to an American PX in Germany. I thought I would try a tin of root beer as I had seen it mentioned numerous times on American TV programs. On opening it was a greenish frothy product and it tasted exactly like GERMOLENE!

I always wondered who those warnings on tubes of ointment, etc. saying "for external use only" were aimed at - now I know!Chunky Monky wrote:Years ago I had access to an American PX in Germany. Re: Germaline.
Amazon UK sells it. There are quite a few suppliers that they use and some will ship to Spain.

I've never used the stuff personally. We wash every wound well in water and apply diluted Hydrogen Peroxide or Aloe Vera. If it needs cleaning again, I use a saline solution. I have 2 very active, accident prone boys who have never had an infected wound and always heal very quickly
