That is the maximum download speed that can be expected.
Back to my question:- What download speed do you get?

Hi alicia,
Run the speedtest Gerry posted..you should get 75% at least of the 6Mbps so will be ok for your needs.

With ADSL you may find the evenings a bit slower when every one is in and using the links in your area.

If it's an Orange Dongle then a bigus billus follows. Just a thought.

Only if it a Pay As You Go contract. Otherwise no extra cost.

Yes, PLEASE check if you've got a mobile phone company's ADSL data package . . . massive bills will appear if you start streaming bit-hungry video, unless you're on an "unlimited" download package, which would be unusual for ADSL.

@Markwilding and anyone else who's thinking about it - I've been looking at the Chromecast option - there are plenty available on E-bay, and I'm seriously considering trying it. Can you see any flaws?
One question (being an E-bay virgin): if the shipper is US based, but the item is listed as "location - UK", is there still a chance I'll get stung for import duty on delivery?
Don't worry about what people think, they don't do it very often

Good advice. It would take until at least March 1 for it to arrive from US anyway. All they have is snail-mail!

Quite a few hours have passed with no post on this popular topic. Are you all OK? Either BBC has reappeared or there has been some sort of mass expat suicide pact.

I have just downloaded filmon on my i phone 5 and started to watch BBC1 news using my neighbours internet to test it. Yes I had his permission. Question now if I install unlimited internet and buy a apple tv connector is that me sorted.

Also can you purchase the filmon app for a macbook pro.

Yes, the iPhone will talk to the Apple TV and show the picture on the TV.

There is no Filmon app for either Windows or Apple OSX. You have to use the browser which is OK but the quality is not as good as through the iPad app (no idea why!). Your MacBook will also talk to the Apple TV so you will have a couple of options.

Question about iPlayer - I checked internet speed before and after activating BB4S's UK IP address. In both cases it was over 5. The other evening iPlayer was fine, but last night, it was buffering every few minutes. I'm using it over Wifi. Is there something I can do to stop the buffering? I know about connecting direct rather than over wifi, and downloading rather than watching live, but should I try something else?

Following advice on here, and from my ISP I switched off my router AND the power to the radio connection, for ten minutes.
Speed before, 1·79 kbps, speed after, 5·95!

AlisonB same provider,
Exactly the same here and twice during the night, once on BBC2 and once on a download audio distortion like several audio channels being received a few milliseconds apart..

Just read this long thread and am SO glad I am now in the UK with my trusty Virgin Media!

Hope you all get it sorted.
