Hi all
I am looking to get this berry bush but I don't know what it is called.
The fruit is hard apricot like, there a few at the lookout in the Montes de Malaga overlooking Malaga.
I believe they are the berry that the bear on the Athletico Madrid fc badge is picking.
If you know the name pls let me know.
Thanks.
Buster

Thanks for the replies wildside and Enrique.
Anyone had experience planting or growing them?
I am hoping they are hardy and vigorous.

Hi,
You are up there by Cabañeros Park yes? In that case the Madroño should be fine. It is an endemic Mediterranean shrub/tree. Here in the Sierra de Grazalema it covers some of the mountain slopes from heights of 400 metres to over 1000. Temperatures of minus 10 to 40 plus and wind, rain, sun etc. fairly hardy and quite slow growing

Hi wildside.
Thanks for that.
I am actually much closer to Malaga - Solano - in the Comares, Riogordo and Colmenar triangle as I like to call it. South facing slope and with pretty dry soil and if there is wind we get it being close to the crest of the hill.
I will have a go at finding and planting it when I am next there. Figs, nespero and pomegranates doing ok.

There are a few of those trees in the Sierra Tejeda near where I live ... last autumn I did pick up a few of the ripe fruit from the ground and planted them ... but no show yet!
