Female Translator Required
My wife needs a female translator to accompany her at a medical in Granada, organised in collaboration with Dept of Works and Pensions in the UK. She has no time or date set as yet, the translator must be fluent in Spanish & English and be familiar with medical terms. As my wife doesn't drive I would pick up the translator and ferry to and from to Granada City. We live in the Iznajar area and will pick up between Antequera and Granada.

Re: Female Translator Required
Will the medical be carried out at a hospital or a dctor's surgery ? A lot of hospitals have a voluntary translation service (I mean the tranlators are volunteers, not the patients !), so you could try contacting them ? Or possibly Antequera hospital ? Citizens Advice ?
Good luck - hope you find someone

Re: Female Translator Required
According to the "rights and obligations" posted in every health centre, the health service has made it obligatory for them to make sure patients understand about their treatment, in their own language.

A city hospital will for sure have a translator for your wife. We have 2 friends who work as volunteers in the Malaga area.
Re: Female Translator Required
I noticed n our health centre a poster with the telephone number of an interpreter. Might be worth checking out your own health centre.

I don't know if this is still current but I found "When a translator is needed, simply phone the help line on 902 505 060 24 (information and services centre) or 902 505 066 for Primary care appointment line hours 365 days per year. In an emergency dial 061. You can also email the Salud Response line for information."

Re: Female Translator Required
Thanks for all the replies.
More than likely the medical examination will be at the DSS Office in Granada, they will have their in-house medical staff, and do not provide a translation service, the Dept of Work & Pensions in the UK state that you must take a translator of your own.
cheers

I would contact the hospital in Granada & ask if they know of anyone - I'm sure they have volunteer interpreters, and one of them may be prepared to do a little 'outside job'

The lady who runs the english book shop in mollina is a translator, sorry dont have her phone number at the moment, but could get it later today if you want it.
My spelling is Wobbly. It's good spelling but it Wobbles, and the letters get in the wrong places.

Hi Enrique
No we met at Alcampo very early in the morning, I drove to the Medical Centre which was not easy to get to as well as finding parking. Obviously she charged for her time to and from her house plus traveling expenses, we were only in the Centre half an hour. She was really helpful and efficient, hopefully we'll get to use her again soon on a different matter.
Cheers
