Warning Light In Car

Postby john the baptist » Mon Aug 03, 2015 2:55 pm

I just got the warning light on the dash of the yellow car with a spanner in the middle.

In the book it says its electrical problem which I assume is very serious.

im trying to get hold of my usual mechanic but ive got an awful feeling hes taken August off as holiday.

has anyone ever had this before, should I not use the car at all until i can arrange for it to go to the garage.

everything its either closed or opened a few hours so any info would be gratefully received.

thanks

some cars mine Nissan will reset if the battery is disconnected overnight.
The important thing to note with this is say if the radio has a code this is not possible.
I am no expert and was pleasantly surprised that I could do this...

Does your manual say the light might be a warning the car needs a service?
Is it starting and driving normally?

it says its a fault in the engine electronic system.

just tried it, it starts ok, aircon works fine, apart from the light, it seems fine.

thats why Im concerned as I dont want it to cut out on the autovia with the family in the car.

Hi john the baptist,

Its in limp home mode, so if you have it at the house you've made it.

What year is it.........there are two methods(in car display) to get the error code depending on year.

Some Limp home faster than others :) ........maybe you can't get over 60 on the Motorway.......and it will use more fuel generally.

I'll play safe and PM you as the info came from another site...........

Disconnecting the battery may clear the fault but if it has a sensor failure the light will come back on. It will need to be plugged into a diagnostic system.

Prob sounds stupid, but I presume you have checked all your lights, I have a opal corsa and had the same trouble,it turned out to be a light bulb. Replaced the bulb and the warning light went out.
My spelling is Wobbly. It's good spelling but it Wobbles, and the letters get in the wrong places.

This is the engine management warning symbol. As it's orange it means take note and get it checked out soon. If it is a serious fault "limp home" mode will be enabled and you will definitely know about it. The car will not go above 30 to 40. The engine management warning light is linked to dozens of sensors. You shouldn't disconnect the battery because you need to find out what it means.

Most garages will carry out a diagnostic check for around €40 and should be able to tell you exactly what has caused the problem.

Don't ignore it.

Take it to an Opel dealer for diagnosis. Can't beat going to the right garage for the right car, IMHO.

If you put where you live on your profile, someone will probably give you the name of a good local mechanic.

Disconnecting the battery does no harm. it will either clear the fault or not. My guess it will be a dodgey sensor which will need replacing.

do not disconnect battery unless you have the radio code, I had this exact car and the radio needs a code once its powered off.
it never was powered off completely so I can tell you no more..

i took it to get a diagnostic done, turned out to be the airfilter sensor, left with them looking for a quote for for it, got home and by the time i got to my town it had gone and back to the yellow warning light that looks like an engine.

so now im totally confused.

I think you would benefit from joining a car forum.

They have real experts who have encountered exactly your problem many times previously.

In all likelihood it's the air flow mass sensor, fitted near the air filter.
Dirt builds up on these; often simply cleanable (special technique, delicate) or new at around £25.
Time to fit would be just a few minutes, plus a fault-clearing diagnostic check.
