What is happening to the £
Below the 1.25 mark today. A few months ago I got 1.40.
I know that UK interest rates are not going up anytime soon, but have things improved that much in Euroland ?

Re: What is happening to the £
Strange isn't it although I remember when Eurozone was in turmoil the rate was only 1.15. Pound is up against the dollar since last week. Stock markets crashing too UK down 1.84 today, Spain minus 4% and Italy a whopping 5% down this morning...what does it all mean, are we doomed
UK wanted a lower pound.
UK wanted a lower pound.
Re: What is happening to the £
The UK need a weaker £ for export market. The tourists suffer but its vital for exports for a weaker £.
They would love it to be 1.10 or 1.15 max

Too much uncertainty with the forth-coming referendum on the EU.

Re: What is happening to the £
I agree with Lavanda it is the Brexit that effects the £-€ rate.
Re: What is happening to the £
So what effected the £ before Brexit was ever heard of like 2 years ago.

Partly, I suppose, the financial crisis in Asia has some effect too.

Re: What is happening to the £
Being honest, no one knows.
In my humble opinion however, 1.25 is as low as I would hope it would go.
As I am sitting on some Euros, I would not buy at 1.25, hoping when sense prevails, the rate will climb.
So, now is as good a time as any to buy £ against euros.
I stand to be corrected however.

Wow !
Has dropped below 1.25 ( tiny bit tonight ).
With EU interest rates being cut to shreds, should be a bounce now. But who knows in these markets.
We live in interesting times !

Re: What is happening to the £
The markets went crazy today. The ECB changes to interest rates and QE were unexpectedly worse than expected and the Euro crashed. An hour or so later it went up again in a big way. It was the biggest daily swing in the history of the Euro. No one really seems to understand it. I certainly don't!
It may calm down a bit tomorrow.

Talking to her currency exchange people and moving wheelbarrow loads of money around, of course.
Re: What is happening to the £
I am waiting for Brexit, a couple of weeks later the euro will collapse and we will all be getting 1.60 to the pound. although I have never got a currency prediction right

Brexit would be the best thing that happened to the UK in ages.
Alas, it will not happen.

Re: What is happening to the £
It may but the problem is that not many people may vote as, so far, no one has any idea what will happen next either way. It's completely crazy to offer the electorate a vote where the consequences are unclear.

Re: What is happening to the £
Can we please stick to the currency question. There is already a long thread on the general Brexit question.

Pound on the up a little though
Re: What is happening to the £
I think, aside from a few hours dip, that both the pound rate to Euro/dollar has been more or less the same since at least November?
